2021 G1 NIU ATL Depth Chart

@Buffalobuzz Yeah, you’d have thought our #1 recruit Blackstrain would have made the cut. Blackburn the #2 recruit got injured.

Not sure if Kaleb Edwards was #3 or #4. He’s not listed either.
Blackstrain has a similar skill set to a lot of guys on the roster, unlike Leo who had some elite skills. Kaleb Edwards will probably play but our secondary is stacked so he has a lot of talent to climb past.

DTs and DEs specifically. I guess those must not be in any significant order.
They are not in a specific order relative to depth. It's numerical. DT's for example:

TK Chimedza had an achilles injury and put on some bad weight before he was able to rehab. He's getting to a better playing weight now.
Djimon Brooks frame holds 286 better than 300. He can get off the ball quicker and is more agile.
JaQuon Griffin same as Djimon. He was playing much heavier before but his body type is better suited for a little lower weight. You may see him used as a 3rd DT/DE hybrid on certain running downs.

DE's:
Sylvain Yondjoen has missed a good portion of his first 2 years here with injury/rehab. That is likely why he has lost rather than gained. Also could be that he had some bad weight to shed after his first year.
The rest of the DE's, the heavier guys are the strong-side end's and the lighter guys are the weak-side rush ends.

Ask and you shall receive. This is Week 1 ATL 2019 vs. Clemson and Week 1 ATL 2021 vs. NIU:

I'll take Things That Are Better On The Right Side Of The Screen for $1000 please, Alex.

Interesting that there are many guys who are somewhat leaner 2 years later. I think that is a good thing for those players.

Checked in on Lucas Johnson at San Diego State, looks like he’s still battling with another senior transfer to start in his final year. Good luck to him, I’ll gladly make SDS my 10PM kick off game watch if he starts.

Our highest rated recruit had lesser skills than the guy below him at the same position?

@ncjacket If Peery had no shot at starting, why did we recruit him? I can understand he didn't have what it takes to unseat Sims, but he couldn’t beat out Yates and that guy from Temple?

ATL making a grown man cry.

:bigcry:

So long as Georgia Tech coach Geoff Collins isn’t naming starters for Saturday’s season opener against Northern Illinois, Huskies coach Thomas Hammock isn’t, either.

In response to Collins’ “Above the Line” chart, which lists all players deemed ready to play but does not place them in the traditional format of starter and backup at each position, Hammock elected to not release his own two-deep depth chart prior to Saturday’s season opener for both teams.

“Why would we put out a two-deep and they have not?” Hammock said at his Tuesday news conference. “It just doesn’t make sense to me.”

...

Wait, Malik Rutherford's weight is a typo, right?

...

That weight does catch the eye, but we know there is at least one other mistake on the sheet.

Interesting thing to me is Rutherford is down as a wr but not a returner.

NEWS FLASH: Our coaches don't care how a guy is rated. BlackStrain has a similar skill set to other guys ahead of him on the team. Blackburn is 4" taller and almost 40 lbs heavier than Blackstrain.

Should Clemson have not recruited a QB the last few years since anybody they brought in was not going to start over Trevor Lawrence? Or even be second string as a Freshman over guys that have been there for a year or two?
