I wouldn’t say that about King either, today. But two years ago I was reading posts saying King was an athletic kid with a broken throwing motion (Tebow-esque) and poor pocket awareness.I would not call King a below average passer (when healthy at least). I feel like Sluka is like a worse version of an injured King. I think he'd be a step down from any of our current 3 QBs.
Of course, this is based entirely on watching him play like half of one game combined with hearing about his stats earlier this season in light of the NIL/benching himself stuff. Plus watching his team continue to win without him. So what do I know.
Maybe so. I was assuming Knowles would shuffle out. I could be wrong, usually am, and have no dog in the fight other than thinking QB3 isn’t a desirable spot.I highly doubt we get a QB from the portal. Next year was always going to be King or Pyron, not both. Then we still have Philo and Knowles with Grady Adamson coming in. Knowles is still developing but has the NFL measurables and a big arm. He also was able to redshirt this year, so if Philo doesn't, Knowles will technically be a year behind him. I suspect our QB room next year will be King/Philo/Knowles/Adamson and a few walk-ons.
He may eventually, but I think he's going to stay and be developed before bolting. After next season, if he doesn't feel he'll be #2 behind Philo or battling him for the starting job he may go then.Maybe so. I was assuming Knowles would shuffle out. Really is no reason for Knowles to transfer at this point. He probably isn't a starting level QB at any D1 school next season. He would be better off staying here and getting another year under his belt behind King.He may eventually, but I think he's going to stay and be developed before bolting. He does know the quality of coaching he is getting here and he can see that someone who is ready gets to play, probably depends on his opinion of himself and where he is now. He also has a buddy from high school here getting PT in the OL, might help, I don't know. I have a hard time seeing him conclude he is being held back but that is just spitballing.Really is no reason for Knowles to transfer at this point. Yea. If he wants to play he probably goes; most kids want to play or want a clear path to playing.Behind King and Philo*
It really depends on whether he wants to play (would seem like a pretty good reason) or if he wants the education more. If he wants to play, he'll likely leave as he isn't likely to see the field any time soon and isn't guaranteed to ever see the field. If he wants the education, he can stay and try to get his degree as fast as possible and maybe transfer out with a degree later on.
FWIW, he was actually ranked ahead of Philo (QB46 vs QB47) coming out of hs, but had far fewer offers (5 vs 15). I could see him transferring somewhere like UTSA, who offered him out of hs. I don't know their QB situation, but I'd guess he'd have a better chance to play there than here (and it's obviously closer to home).
He's an aerospace engineering major also. Sure hope he can find a school close to home that needs a punter and offers his field of study.
1. King is not going pro. Not on any experts boards. He’ll either be at GT or somewhere like Oregon next year. While hope all of our QB's stay, we have no idea what will happen after the season. It's the wild, wild west with the transfer portal. It does seem like we are building a program around guys that are bought into staying around. Who knows?
It seems to me that we have our right now QB (King) and future QB (Philo) on the roster. Bringing in a QB via portal seems unlikely unless we have significant losses to the portal.
Will Haynes King go pro or get offered huge stacks of cash to transfer?
Will Buster Faulkner get a HC job and take Philo with him?
Will Pyron or Knowles transfer for a better chance at playing time?
Who really knows? I don't.
You aren’t going to prevent transfers from happening. Our current DL has been pretty good, and the high impact guys there are transfers from the B10 and SEC. Just have to keep reloading.1. King is not going pro. Not on any experts boards. He’ll either be at GT or somewhere like Oregon next year.
2. CBF likely won’t be getting an HC job outside of maybe something like Kennesaw State. Question is, would he really want a program like that? The real likelihood is, someone like OU, uga, etc throws more $$$ at him to be the OC.
3. QB situation will be fluid. More than likely 1-2 of the current QB’s move on. That’s a safe bet.
The reality is, does GT lose other position players to the Portal? Look around CFB right now. 3 former DL’s are starting in the B1G and sec. The 2 in the SEC (Ivey, Kennard) are absolute game changers. That’s what GT needs to prevent going forward. Try and keep the impact players from leaving for the bigger programs.
apparently, we did something to keep Singleton from going to LSU after last year. You aren’t going to prevent transfers from happening.
Link: ME / AerospaceKSU has an AE major!?
How tall is Philo?Had Philo been 6’4”, he would have been a high 4* or higher. When he committed to us I thought we had the steal of the class. He flew UTR recruiting wise with the factories because of the physical measurables. He has not disappointed but rather shown us a glimpse of our QB future post King era. That future is bright. Very similar to Joe Ham. He’s got the intangibles. His pocket awareness and vision are off the charts.
6'2, allegedlyHow tall is Philo?
