What's a normal OL class going forward? 4-5 OL?

Obviously with the change in scheme and us not signing any last year this was always going to be a heavy OL class.

I'd think we are expecting a handful to play, and then a handful will redshirt to get some class separation.
 
I've been following Tech football since 2004, when I enrolled. And every single year there has been bitching that we don't recruit enough/more OL. Finally a coaching staff that is putting emphasis in properly managing the roster.

Jacked up and thrilled to have Paula in this deep and excellent OL class. Dude looks like a beast.

I'd expect 3-4 at a minimum. I think 4-5 is about right until the roster is set in about 4 years. There was a thread elsewhere, maybe another board, that showed either Bama or Clemson's OL recruiting when they initially "turned over" their roster and this was pretty much the blueprint they used as well. Winning games starts upfront on the lines, it should be something that is continually recruited hard year in year out.
 


247 has him rated quite a bit higher than rivals, maybe because they rate him as a center rather than a tackle. AT 6'4" 303, I think he can play anywhere we need him. His other top schools were Boston College, Nebraska, Missouri and Houston.

Nice to get a Texas kid in the class. We are trying pretty hard to get a pipeline going there like the one we have in Florida.
 
These are the guys that will bring us victories. They won’t score a point or get many highlights but top 10 teams are built from the offensive and defensive line out. QB’s, WR’s, and RB’s are a dime a dozen (other than the elite), but the lines are where coaches earn their money. Whether we win another game this year or not doesn’t change the fact that we have a coach who knows what needs to be done and is hungry. As for numbers, I’ll be glad to take 6 OLinemen a year and take a few less WR’s. We’ve seen what injuries can do to a line.

It was also the blueprint that Bobby Ross used! And we all see where that got us!

Bama took 5 in 2016, 2017, 2019
Bama took 2 in 2018, 2020*

Clemson took 5 in 2016
Clemson took 3 in 2017
Clemson took 2 in 2018
Clemson took 4 in 2019
Clemson has 5 in 2020*

GT has 7 in 2020*
GT took 0 in 2019
GT took 2 in 2018
GT took 4 in 2017
GT took 3 in 2016

Only conclusions I can clearly draw is that 2019 was a bad recruiting year, preferably we would have taken 4-6 instead of zero.

We had a few committed prior to the coaching change. After the change in scheme they decided to go elsewhere. Likely best for all involved.

The roster will be practically turned over by the end of next year's recruiting cycle.
