#35 and #43 in the polls

This will all shake out. We'll have 2 easy and dominant wins, over 3 weeks where top 25 teams can get upset and accumulate losses, then we play Clemson on national TV. They should be ranked by then as well. That's our resume building game - if we win that then we're legit and we get major pub. If we don't win that, then we didn't deserve to be ranked anyway and getting our panties in a wad over it now is a waste of time.

I hope this is not some type of option bias. With just one close loss on the road and an impressive win we should be ~ #25.

The more important thing with pollsters, is they don't often see every team play this early in the season, but they do look at stats.

After our next two games, we should be solidly and squarely in the #1 spot for Team Rushing in the NCAA. Currently we're about 120 yards behind Navy. Two patsy games should crush that position, which gives the media a "buzzword" about our team. Then when they go back and say "but against who?" they can answer "Miss State." Then they talk more. Then we thrash Clemson on national TV and we'll be at or around 15ish, which is probably where we should be.

The problem with early polls is that lots of folks haven't lost yet, or if they have lost it's vs a highly ranked team. (see: Ohio State) I can say "there's not 44 teams better than us!" but I can also look at each of the teams in the top 25 and make a case that they might very well be better than us, individually, and that case will stand until they start losing. When I see our record, I see a loss vs a team that really isn't that good. (VT)

Start rooting for Air Force over Utah and crap like that.

Yeah, I don't have any problem not being ranked right now. We're 3-1, if we were 4-0 we'd be in. But at 3-1 and leading the nation in fumbles, I can see some writers not wanting to put us on their ballot. I can doubly see it considering our starting QB just went out with an injury. If we blow out Duke and G-W, cut out the fumbles, and lead the nation in rushing then we might sneak into the polls.

If we win the next 3 games and are unranked, then we can we can start complaining. Win the next 4 and we'll be ranked and broadcast by someone other than Raycom.

We lost against a mediocre VPISU and we're 3-1. It doesn't matter that it was a close game, in cow country and that we got jobbed by the ACC refs. Not too many voters actually saw the game. They saw the box score. We should win our next 2 games, get our record to 5-1 and then we'll be ranked. It really doesn't matter what our ranking is though. Having a number in front of your name doesn't mean you get anything other then a better game time on Saturday. So, maybe it does matter, a tiny bit.

Either way, I'm going to start referring to the obsessive watching and whining about poll rankings as 'meat gazing' and anyone who complains about our lack of votes in the AP/Coach/Harris poll as a 'meat gazer'. No one should spend that much time staring at polls...

This is somewhat due to our past performances during the last decades. We win some games and then play like s**t when we get a decent ranking. These guys do not yet know we have entered a new era with Paul Johnson, but they will soon learn it. We have never had a coach with this much fire in his belly, and the smarts to go with it, since I have been following Tech, and that includes coach Dodd who I respect very much.

Cool site. You can see who voted for GT and where they ranked us.
Very cool site.

Interesting: Adam van Brimmer from the Savannah rag has us unranked but cast the highest vote of anyone for Virginia Tech (#18) and the second highest of anyone for East Carolina (#17). In fact, seven of his votes are at the extreme ends of the voting (5 are either the 1st or 2nd highest and 2 are at or near the bottom for the respective team).

Curiously, I didn't see any voters that I recognized from the AJC. I guess they are abstaining since they are pretty much on UGag's payroll. :laugher:

Freudian typo or Nazi sympathizer?

no, his comment on this picture

I'm happy for Vandy, but they have no business being ranked and won't be for long. They needed a lot of breaks, turnovers, and good bounces in that Ole Miss game. They should've lost by 2 TDs if you look at the stats. There's only 4 winnable games left on their schedule: Duke, @Miss State, Tennessee, and @Kentucky. Even at 4-0 they still have an uphill fight to get to their first bowl in 26 years.

4-0 is 4-0. If they aren't ranked, then there's an even bigger flaw with polls then I thought. Are they overrated? Probably, but results are results.

If WF can be ranked, than so can Vandy. They've both beaten, or at the very least scared, big teams to warrant respect.

I'm starting to hope we're not ranked for the Clemson game. It may give us a material advantage against a Tommy Bowden team unable to focus against lesser rated opponents.

Seem to believe Clemson has a hard time getting up against any opponent--witness Alabama opening night.

You just can't compare Vandy and Wake. There are 27 undefeated teams today. Wake won the ACC 2 years ago and has won 20 games the last 2 seasons, beating Vandy head-up last year, and has now become the first ACC program to beat FSU 3 IAR.

Vandy, OTOH, has won 9 games the last 2 seasons. They've had a couple of big wins, but not near as many as Wake.

Wake is a legit top 15 team. They have beaten 2-2 Baylor, 2-2 Ole Miss, 2-1 FSU. Vandy has beaten a 1-3 Miami (Ohio), 2-2 USCe, 2-2 Rice, 2-2 Ole Miss.

Wake has the 32nd ranked SOS according to Sagarin, and Vandy has the 64th.

Maybe give them a few votes for going 4-0, but they are NOT the 20th best team in college ball. We ought to be ranked 20th (at least). This GA Tech team is a very good team. Good D; very good, powerful, unconventional O; and the best sideline coach around.

We will be a force to reckon with THIS year. That was no slouch D we ran all over Saturday.

Vandy is an excellent example of a team that's going to, heh, "shake out."
