4 more gone

What is your take on the guys who signed as well as next year’s commits?

Liked pretty much all the December pick up. Ahmarean Brown should cause problems for opponents Day 1. Imagine USF Kick Returner. That’s the type of speed he possess. Lockhart will be a DT. He will be a force. Demetrius Knight is my sleeper pick of the class. I thought he would a LB as soon he stepped on campus. 4.6 guy who played QB physical and powerful like Nesbitt. I always use the 2015 Florida defense as my baseline for what CGC wants on defense. Hopefully, Knight can be the Jarad Davis for us.

Current commits. I love the size and length we have. Wiggles versatility is intriguing. All of our LBs are Uber-athletic, run well and can play in space

The combo of King, Ward, & Gowdy(expected to commit on the 30th) can win us a lot of ball games. The battle btw Gleason & Yates should be a great. Solid OL. Really like Williams. Not sure if we have that stall worth LT yet. Jahmyr Gibbs and Jamious is a nasty 1-2 combo

Surprising that some of this is happening so late in the process, particularly with Bonds and Gantt. If the prospects for PT looked bleak after spring, you'd have thought they would have entered the transfer portal a little sooner. It's a little late in the game to find a new landing spot, unless they had been working quietly to secure one.

Probably happened right after spring practice, but just now being made public. After spring ball, grades, talking with parents & getting the speech I got after my first year as a walk-on & going through spring ball - "Well, if you're not gonna play, you need to finish your degree & figure out what you're gonna do with your life. BTW, you're over 18, you ain't coming home." - a lot of guys decide to get on with their lives.

Football roster has been updated on rr.com with the latest departures and new pics/numbers for everybody:

https://ramblinwreck.com/sports/m-footbl/roster/

Noteworthy:

Jalen Camp to #1
James Graham to #4 (assuming here this means he earned it back and will be eligible)
Antonneous Clayton #7 (single digit usually has to be earned so this is a good sign)
Ahmarean Brown #10
Marquez Ezzard #11
Myles Sims #16
Jamious Griffin #22 (second coming of deuce-deuce?)
Jordan Mason #27
Tony Amerson #45
Cornelius Evans #47

Each year, I pick one guy. One guy that for whatever reason I think is going to really surprise everybody and have an amazing career.

This year, my pick is Ahmarean Brown #10

Being worried about Tufele and DBs leaving

Immediately after CGC was brought on, it was about 10 guys that immediately popped into mind that would be go bc they didn’t fit and Boe was one of them. TBH, I’am not sure if he was fit for CPJ system either.

DB is the last place we should be worried about attrition. Bonds was injured day one he stepped on campus and hasn’t been the same guy since from my understanding.

I wish them all well

That, from you, puts my mind at ease. I figured the DBs coming in were probably better and both the staff and the departing players knew it.
Just the numbers of OL was worrisome to me but if Bo was always injured then maybe that’s a good move for him and the team.

how often are you right?
Lately, about a third of the time. I know I'm not doing so great when I can't remember who I picked last year or the year before that.

But I'm pretty sure I'm right this time.

If it’s a “career” pick, how do you know you haven’t done so great “lately”?

That puts Tech at 10 departed players but that still is not as high as the 2010 season (16), 2016 (15) or 2014 (13) seasons for attrition. Those new departures put Tech at 82 scholarships with the ability to sign 16 without further attrition. Coach Collins is clearly aiming to 20-plus in the 2020 recruiting cycle so there will be further attrition.

Of course there will be further attrition, some kids are gonna graduate, no? Current roster has 12 or 13 seniors.

Per Kelly Q :

"For those counting at home, Gentry Bonds, Jarett Cole, Xavier Gantt and Boe Tufele are no longer on the #GaTech football team."
It’s going to take Geoff a few years to get the personnel he needs to run the Offense and D he wants. These guys leaving just opens up a few more spots for this year.

Bonds was hurt day one and stayed that way. Boe was a last minute Sewak reach.

Now that we have scholarships available, here is a defensive lineman with length and immediate eligibility from Riverdale - https://247sports.com/Player/Chidi-Okonya-38807/

Also wide receivers - https://247sports.com/Player/Irvin-Charles-31095/ and https://247sports.com/Player/Audie-Omotosho-38732/

And an offensive lineman - https://247sports.com/Player/Zeke-Martin-55106/

These players would add depth where we need it and would only count this year.
I wouldn't be opposed to getting some underclassmen transfers on OL. I don't want another rental that is gone after a year. We need to build depth there and not just freshman depth.

We need graduate transfers who can play immediately or we need the 2020 recruiting cycle
