isn't gettting the job done. I can't imagine CPJ tolerating this either. The question is what is he going to do about it. For me...I am done with the CTR experiment. Loved the guy as a player, but it hasn't translated too well for him coaching defenses. I would like to see a change at years end.

We should def hire our 4th DC. And if he doesn't work out net year, hire the 6th. And so on and so on.

Totes original thread.

too many factors this year. CTR was getting it done vs Dook and Off did not show up. This year is a bust b/c of poor offense and D, while they may suck too, is not going to get too much blame.

Costly turnover by JT and ONLY 7pts in the 2nd half. If offense would have played well we would have won that game.

So your saying continue with the current SOP...and hope that the offense can out score the other team everytime...thats one option, or maybe we just get lucky and sign several blue chip defensive players that CTR can hide behind for 3 or more years...even better!

You are correct that the turnover killed us but that doesn't make up for the 5.9 yards per play and no tackles for loss.

The baffling thing to me is it was recognized that Tech can be greatly helped by an offensive system where one of its strengths is neutralizing the talent discrepancy that exists with its opponents.

On defense, we're asking guys to defend in the same vanilla Cover 2 shell snap after snap after snap after snap after snap after snap after snap after snap after snap...

after snap...
after snap...

...hoping we make them snap the ball enough times and we're finally able to make a play.

I hate the way we play defense. It seems a lot of people's memory of Tenuta has gotten fuzzy over the years. Sure, we had games where we got pounded, but I'll take a Tenuta blitz your brains out with your hair on fire every day over the crap we trot out there now.

Who cares if it's taking :30 seconds or 1-minute for them to score, due to an overly aggressive D betting burned? Good luck keeping up and sucks for you that your defense is back out there to get pounded by our O for another 5:30 or 6:00 minutes.

I think there are still some staffers we haven't suggested firing. We should probably just make a comprehensive list and then post an "air your targeted grievances thread" to shorten this process.

There were a lot of TFL opportunities but we missed tackles, including the play before the FG making the FG 60 yards.

On defense it comes down to talent. I don't think it's like Groh, where the schemes were so complex that many players were in the wrong position and tentative. Missed tackles in the backfield lean more towards correct scheme but talent or training issues.

I think if you ignore the injuries and the blown recruiting class from a few years back and a few other things then yeah, you can put all the blame on CTR.

This is absurd. There are many offenses that have "equalizing" schemes other than CPJ's, like Leach's offense. How many defenses with clearly worse talent make up for it with an unorthodox scheme?

Maybe Tenuta did, but we had a poor defense in 2007 and Tenuta hasn't beat the world at various positions since Tech. I credit the talent in the mid-00's moreso than the scheme.

I'm saying that you're a retard.

I remember reading once somewhere (probably here) that Tenuta got first pick of the depth recruits for his defense, which is why the defense always seemed a step better than our offenses (Patrick Nix didn't help either). I don't know how true this is at all, but I imagine that Paul Johnson would keep those types for the offense now (seeing as we have something like 15 A-backs on the team).

D was the same last year at this point when he finally started playing aggressively. Don't know why we are watching another 1/2 season of this before we decide to blitz a little more...

CPJ radio show is on, and he just said that we don't have the offense to play aggressively on defense this season. He said, last year he told them to get off the field one way or another since we can rely on the offense...

Perhaps even make voodoo dolls for the next tailgate too!

Not a good example, considering he was All-American at OG. I don't think coach is hoarding players on offense. We just are not hitting any homers on Defense. Most of our better defensive players are unheralded guys who turn out to be better than advertised.
