9/19-20 Thursday/Friday Game Thread (Fruits vs. Trees edition)

Didn't catch any of the Stanford/Syracuse game but looking at the box score, the most disappointing things that come to mind rehashing our game against Cuse, are Syracuse's ability to control our run game and our inability to get any semblance of a pass rush. If we don't make significant improvement in these areas, today's game against Louisville will be another L.
We played like öööö against Syracuse. It was the typical Tech does something good (gets ranked) and then proceeds to lay an immediate egg sort of performance. It was a complete start to finish failure in a game we should have won.

P12 after dark didnt disappoint late last night. Wazzou in 2OT.
Wasn't that technically a Saturday game in EDT timezone?
Also, there were live reports being given

Based on what? Who gives an eff about a BS fake ranking after week 1? Some of you are so damn fixated on the most meaningless thing.

Take a step back and look at the reality on where GT is still. The program is still in the building phase post the idiot era. Beating FSU at this point is no better than beating Georgia State. Syracuse stifled GT’s running game for the most part on O, and the Syracuse front 7 controlled the LOS pretty much handling the GT OL. The D couldn’t get Syracuse off the field on 3rd and long. Syracuse was the better team on that Saturday, and looked like the better team. It happens. GT is a 6-7, 8 win max regular season team if things go perfectly the rest of the year. That hasn’t changed. Win or lose today, and that’s still where GT is based on the schedule remaining. And that’s OK. GT is on pace to get to a minimum 6 wins.

It has been said and written numerous times since the Spring, GT will be a better team this year, but the overall record may be the same because of the schedule (top 5 toughest nationally). Showing progress heading into a much easier schedule in 2025 with the recruiting class in place is key.

Well that's the thing isn't it. Have we actually shown progress? Debatable so far. That's what we want to judge today.

Fair enough. But beating 2-0 UofL who has played no one at this point shouldn’t be the measuring stick at 7 pm either. UofL could win 9 this year, or 6. Really don’t know what to expect out of them today or going forward. Only time will tell how good they really are.

Reality is, the ACC is so all over the place at the moment, who knows who is truly good or not. I think it’s fair to say Cal is better than expected, while FSU is a disaster. Miami looks like they could be good, but UF is as bad as FSU. And after App State was destroyed by South Alabama Thursday night, the ole “Clemson offense is fixed” narrative by the media doesn’t look so good.

When it’s all said and done, the ACC will likely have 1-2 teams with 9-10 wins, 1 with 11 and a bunch between 6-8 wins.

Going 6-6, 7-5 is what I expected this year, and GT is on pace for that. I expected a L vs FSU, W vs Syracuse.

I disagree. Vehemently. We are much better than last year.
Main point is Louisville is the first common opponent from last year that may remotely resemble what we faced last year, so we try and judge progress.

You pointed out before that wins may not be a good indication of progress, but that can go both ways. We may have expected to be 3-1 now and not in the way it happened, but the details of that path matter too, with 2 of those wins being over teams that may struggle to even reach that number themselves this year. That is where the questions come from.

The difference is our players on the field are way better than last year. The Syracuse loss is 100% on the coaches, and that gives me hope because hopefully the staff can learn and adjust quickly

I wouldn't pin the loss to Syracuse on coaching but player execution with respect to the run game. I knew that Ohio U had a pretty decent rush game against Syracuse. I had to check it out. They rushed for over 260 and a 6.4 YPC. So, our poor performance on the ground was on the OL and the RB's. Hey but we have to put that in the rear view as well as the VMI game and get zoned in for UofL THWG!

JMU just killing UNC 46-21 in 2nd qtr, does Geff even make it to the Tech game before getting run out of town?

Funny thing is on the UNC board not many mentioning the clown .. all blaming Mack Brown.

How is it that Stanford beat Syracuse when they should have been so tired flying all of the way from coast to coast, as so many posters on this board have used the excuse that the Jackets were still tired weeks later after the trip from Ireland?
