9/22 press conference

I am fine with CGC being the visionary, face of the program, rah-rah, branding is everything, positive guy while his coordinators are the technical X’s and O’s folks. I do agree his pressers are good for drinking games...at a high level.
This is fine, and I’ve grown used to it and really enjoy the lighter side of things. As you say, you get a good mix.

However...skip to the end of the linked video from his presser today about the decision to clock it with 1:30 left in the half.

Man up and answer the question with honesty. If you ööööed up, own it. If someone else ööööed up, take owenership for it anyway. If it was the right call, explain your thought process.

I’m not sure why we didn’t use timeouts in critical third down situations before the first half ended. I think it’s silly to EVER leave the first half with timeouts.

Was frustrated by this too. There were clear times where our guys weren't ready on D in important situations. Cut your losses and call timeout!

And I agree with ElCidBuzzingFan, clocking the ball was a mistake and Collins should own it

I think he might just be taking the blame for someone else’s mistake instead of telling reporters who screwed up.

So you're saying CGC is a clown just like Dabo?

I’m saying he sees his primary role as head coach as a Program manager, culture builder, and recruiter, and delegates the coaching/adjustments of the two units to his coordinators, just like Dabo. While he has a strong pedegree in coaching on the defensive side of the ball, I would be willing to bet he is not micromanaging the offense or defensive game plans outside of one or two suggestions prior to game day. I would not call our head coach a clown, but he’s definitely got some slick salesmanship in his style, just like Dabo, and if he can have that level of success you certainly won’t hear me complain. I like what he is doing and the position he seems to have put his staff in, the one thing going forward he needs to clean up is clock/game management, which to me seems to land squarely on Collins making better in game, real time decisions regarding clock management.

That said, it would not surprise me if other fanbases saw a Collins interview and referred to him as “a clown”. They gonna learn, though.

All that matters is getting better talent. Period. Players win games, not coaches or schemes. Sure, coaches and schemes are important but talent wins. If not, Saban would be looking for his 10th title at Michigan State. But the difference in Saban at Michigan State and Saban at Alabama is TALENT. What Collins has done in less than 2 years regarding GT’s talent level is amazing. Is the process complete? Not by a long shot, but give him 2-3 more recruiting classes and GT will own the Coastal.

this is the worst shirt anyone has ever made
and I hope whoever made that shirt has his feet ripped off in a tragic, unforeseeable textile mill accident, and while crawling out to the street to seek help, is run over by a Russell delivery truck, and as he lies dying in the street, the blood pouring from his body miraculously spells out "All Day I Dream About Superior sporting wear"

I know and agree with you. I was being facetious.
