A Culture of Inferiority

I concur completely! As a 1990 alumnus, 33 year season ticket holder, active booster, and 22 year charter member of the Tech RV Club, I have never seen Tech football in this condition. The Athletic Association will not get a dime from me, nor will I buy another ticket until both Stansbury and the Clown are gone. They both have destroyed every single thing I cherish about Georgia Tech Football and Basketball.

I said it in the Roddy thread. Geoff said it again yesterday, regarding the losing. It hurts him, but I've never once heard him or inferred from him that it ever makes him angry.

The team has taken on that personality trait from their coach. I think that's where the lack of fight, grit, and battle stems from. Football is an angry man's game. That's what's gonna be hard for the next guy.

To that point - go back to the 2019 game against Virginia Tech. It's 45-0 in the fourth quarter. There's some sort of review and Collins asks about it and as the refs tell him to get back, you can see him smiling and chuckling.
Down 45-0. To Virginia Tech.
I watched that and thought there ain't a goddamn thing funny about this ass kicking we're taking, Clown.

The joke's been on us the whole time.

Looking back, we really should have seen everything he said about how big the transition was as a big red flag.
I think he got the script from our basketball coach. #biggesttransitioninthehistoryofever was trending on campus back then.

I'm a sadist, so I went digging on this and you're absolutely right. Cackling as he backpedaled toward the sidelines.

What scares the hell out of me is that we are headed for a Bill Curry to Bobby Ross transition where the kids are so spoiled that the new hardass coach has a two-year long mutiny before the team accepts his leadership. I had players that transitioned from Curry to Ross tell me directly that they wouldn't play for Ross. That's why we went 2 years without an ACC win. Once Curry's upperclassmen peeled off, (1989) the wins started coming.

We are looking at 2025 before we wake up from this nightmare. And I hope Collins never has a restful night of sleep for the rest of his miserable existence for what he has done to the players and fans.
Players can transfer now so you won’t have the clubhouse mutiny issue; nobody is hamstrung into playing for a coach they don’t want to. I’d expect many are already evaluating their options. I even wouldn’t be surprised if a few with RS status available “opt out” before game 5 to preserve eligibility. I wouldn’t judge anyone for doing so.

The kids that stay will be those that care about their degree, those with no other option, and those that are happy to see a new coaching staff come in.

We lost that badly to Virginia Tech? I guess blowouts have become so common under CGC that I literally forgot about some of them. Pretty crazy.
First home shutout in 62 years, but hey....goal line stand with 6 mins prevented it from being 52-0. We wore 'em down in crunch time. Culture built on effort!

I expect there will be more sticking around because of the coaching change than normal.

I think it depends on when the firing happens and who we’ll hire to replace him and when. If we wait until January half of them will be gone.

That is a very good thing. If we get a good coach, the portal will be our friend. We will have opportunities for good players who are looking for an opportunity to play immediately. The guys who do not want to work can take their chances elsewhere.
I pray that we make a good head coach hire and we give him the money to hire the best assistants available. Good assistants are more important than fancy new buildings.

You're right. The first 51-7 under CCG against UGA is burned into my brain, as is the second one against VT. Or the 39-3 shelacking Clemson gave us in 2003. But the blowouts have become so commonplace under The Clown, they're tough to keep up with.

So true.

This. 12 losses >20, 9 losses >30, 6 losses >40, and 2 losses >50 in 3+ years.

They called him Boss Ross for a reason.

I knew some of the football players in 2008 (none of the big stars, mostly backups) and multiple said the same thing about the transition to CPJ. Chan was a players' coach, and CPJ was a disciplinarian. No mutinies, but they definitely preferred to play for Chan over CPJ.
And yet I had a former player who bridged that CCG->CPJ gap tell me on Saturday that he wouldn't suit up for the current regime.
