Academic Reform?

Does anyone know what exactly changed?

"Academic reform continues to be an important undertaking. Two major pieces of academic change were accomplished during the last few months thanks to great cooperation from the Institute, its faculty and Provost - now Interim President - Dr. Gary Schuster. Thanks to this work, the playing field has become more level for student-athletes at Georgia Tech and we should begin to see a greater level of retention and academic success"

Supposed to mean that SAs can play while on probation (seems non athletes weren't normally stopped from extracurricular activities but athletes weren't allowed to play) and that athletes can enroll in other schools, for summer school for example, and transfer classes in (just like other students can). Mainly treating SAs like other students.

Basically we're letting athletes abuse all the technicalities that are available to non-SA students.

Think of all the people that took Physics 2 at Georgia Perimeter x 1000 for athletes.

This may have changed, but students on probation were not allowed to continue playing intramurals. I guess they were still allowed to participate in fraternities and other organizations.

Either way, I'll be glad to see the athletes have the same "rules" as others. I didn't know that they weren't able to transfer classes in and such.

I think athletes will abuse these rules far more than regular students.

Another stupid post Kyle. If they follow the rules, just how is it abuse? If it's okay for non athletes to do it, why is it abuse when SAs do?

Regular students can abuse it too, but I think athletes are far more likely to because a lot of them simply don't care about school. They are always looking for the easiest route, which is why they almost all choose management.

I could see athletes taking the minimum number of credit-hours required at tech and the rest at georgia perimeter.

And if the powers that be decide they don't like it, they can change the rules. I'm all for outstanding academics, but if it's within the rules and you're not making a stretch, go ahead and do it.

I'm all for cutting the athletes some slack. They keep long hours; furthermore, we appear to act like we appreciate their wins somewhat more than their loses.

man, you are a huge turd that doesnt know it when you look in the mirror. what kind of crap are you spouting now? athletes dont care about school?

you may be a little priviledged kid who gets mommy and daddy to pay for your new computer so you can play on an internet message board, but the majority of athletes at Tech play sports to get a scholarship and have no illusions of ever playing their sport professionally.

you are an idiot and should be reprimanded by the board for your assinine and deragotory comments toward GT athletes. i had many classes where the only person pulling their weigth was the girl on the track team that just got back from a meet in Durham or similar.

let me clue you in... THINK before you post, and rent a brain before you try again

Not only derogatory comments towards athletes but also towards anyone who isn't an engineer. Get a clue Kyle, there are other courses of study that are both challenging and that lead to great careers. I keep reminding myself that you're still young and therefore don't really know what you're talking about in many cases, but you really should try to think before you post.

A lot of football and basketball players seem not to. And honestly, let's face it, the rules aren't being changed for the diving team.

This makes no sense. You are stupid.

Glad to know you were a ****ty group member, similar to stingtalk.

Wow, not a single valid point in your post. Great work.

where do you come up with these comments? you cant even understand simple English

just because you are too stupid to understand things, does not make any of the points either "invalid" or "unmeaningful" -- it just makes you stupid.

a great quote i once heard: better to be thought an idiot than to talk and remove all doubt.

Alas, for you it is much too late on that one!

Again, no valid points. You're on a roll.

Actually no Kyle, you're losing this one big time. Your limited experience and observations prove absolutely nothing.

So are there any substance to these arguments or are you guys just going to keep repeating the same things?

Found a pic with me, Buzz Czar, and ncjacket.
