Yeah probably need a Tier 5 or maybe 6 for them.I would put Norvell and Collins in their own category of too early to say.
Really? Chuck Amato? Not sure he's even alive. Hell, even Philips Rivers has retired from the NFL by now. Bowden also retired. LOL. Welcome to the 2020s.I can honestly only name five ACC coaches. Collins, Norvell, Cutcliffe, Brown, and Swinney.
Does Amato still coach NC State?
I don’t know if I could rank them, but they could be put into tiers:
Tier 1 (Dabo)
Dabo
Tier 2 (Good Coaches)
Mack Brown
David Cutcliffe
Dave Clawson
Tier 3 (Meh)
Dave Doeren
Dino Babers
Bronco Mendenhall
Scott Satterfield
Pat Narduzzi
Jeff Hafley
Justin Fuente
Tier 4 (It’s Been Ugly)
Mike Norvell
Manny Diaz
Geoff Collins
I actually struggled a little with where to put CGC, but I think this is fair, based on performance. If we can replicate last week’s performance going forward and pick up 5-7 wins this season, then he moves firmly into Tier 3.
(edit) bumped Clawson up to Tier 2
Because he’s over the hill. He’s probably not going to win much again, but he ingratiated himself enough that he earned a ton of goodwill at Duke. Other than a 3 year blip with a HOF coach in Spurrier, Duke has won nothing at all since the 60s. Hell, Cutcliffe’s 2013 team is the only 10 win season in Duke history.I’ve been there, 1987. It was pathetic, I’m sure it still is.
If he was such a decent coach, why is he still at Duke?
Diaz records:Yeah probably need a Tier 5 or maybe 6 for them.
Diaz records:
6-7
8-3
1-2
Norvell records:
3-6
0-3
Collins records:
3-9
3-6
1-2
Diaz sucks and I expect him to be fired at season’s end, but I’m not sure what Collins has done to be in a different tier. Norvell’s record aligns pretty closely to Collins, and he also inherited a pretty difficult situation. I think it’s pretty fair to put them together right now.
