ACC Coastal 2022 Season Predictions

I’d be surprised/disappointed if we only won 2. But wouldn’t be the first time.
I've said this multiple times but, does anyone remember what our record was last time we played Western Carolina the 2nd game in the season? Also eerily similar that Tech starts the season with a top 10 program. Wasn't Arizona number 1 when Tech nearly beat them in 1994?

If we end up on a trajectory of 2-10, does the coach make it to the end of the season?

I hope so. Because firing him early costs a lot of money. You can do the replacement search on the side.

This. He can be a lame duck for the 2nd half and they could even announce "GT will not retain Geoff Collins after the conclusion of the 2022 season," but I doubt anything will happen mid-season. We've gone too far not to save the money on the buyout. If not, we would have made the change after last season.

Screw it. Coastal chaos reigns one last time and we win the division. Yes I am optimistic. Yes I am probably wrong. Yes I will say told you so if this happens.
It’s college football. We’re fans. We’re supposed to have unrealistic expectations. I’m on board with you!

I don’t think anybodys good enough in the ACC right now that we couldn’t knock them off on the right day. Could win 5 or 6 in the ACC if we get a lot of bounces and Key figures things out. But I would have had a lot more hope for this if Gibbs hadn’t left. We don’t have enough in the trenches to grind teams consistently.

With regards to Gibbs, my hope is that the rest of the offense steps up to fill the gap. I think there was too much waiting to see what Gibbs would do last year. And that is pretty remarkable for a back who never really dominated any team. But that may be that teams were keying on our run game.

I agree and you never want to lose a generational talent like Gibbs, but I believe it could be somewhat a blessing in disguise for this particular team. As fans we were all eyes on Gibbs but opponents were the same way. Didn't matter who we played, he was the best dude on the field, pretty much all we had for offense, and defenses keyed on him. I think we've added some strong enough pieces back to that room and to the WR room (with transfers and folks coming back from injury) that nobody can game plan around one element of our offense anymore.

We weren't ready for Gibbs, unfortunately. Serviceable backs with a functioning offense otherwise would be an improvement.

You don't think he was?
No. 1,216 total yards rushing AND receiving last year barely cracks GT's top 10 in rushing yards alone. 7 & 6 TDs in his two years doesn't sniff any Top 10. He would have had to get over 1,200 yards rushing next year to catch CJ Williams for 10th in career rushing, who got there in three years, which would have nearly doubled his average for the first two years.

Generational talent doesn't necessarily mean generational stats. He was a housecall threat every time he touched the ball. Eyeball test.

I think the next game plan will be around sims which is why having those QB transfers is big.

We'd have to get the number of bounces they used to get at the end of The Man Show on the trampoline.

MTSU was a decent (8-4) D-IA team. Not as bad a loss as the Citadel.

JRjr
That Middle team went bowling, and Dwight Dasher was a pretty good QB (had been a good one in high school too, at Charlton County).
I remember listening to the pregame show on the radio, and they interviewed Rick Stockstill before the game. You could hear it in his voice that MTSU was going to win, without him saying it.
Losing to Middle sucked.
But losing to The Citadel is unconscionable.
Running an unconventional offense - like the one the defense had allegedly seen every day in practice for years?
FWIW, I hate that trope and tripe. It's more lazy talking head talking point. Why in hell would you practice against your own offense, which you won't see on Saturday, on Tuesday and Wednesday?

No OL depth. Yet.
No DL depth.
No LB depth.
Untested and unproven secondary.
Godawful schedule.

I'm afraid this is going to be a long, long, long year.

Dude, he's going to show this year how big of a talent he is. You need to take into account how bad the talent around him sucked before comparing his numbers to anyone else's,

Well, I think he can be replaced without actually taking him off payroll, so if he needs to go, he needs to go. We can still do the "firing" technically at the end of the season.
