ACC Kickoff begins with commissioner Jim Phillips facing questions of uncertainty in college sports landscape

My expectations were low, I mean USC and UCLA just announced a couple weeks ago so what was he supposed to say. But a simple "we know there's a growing disparity gap in income, we're working on it" would have been a better response.

When someone says "nothing is off the table", that sounds like "we don't have any ideas yet, but if we think of some, we'll see if anything sticks". The only time "nothing is off the table" works is when you have freaking nukes.

SEC and BIG10 have issued a joint statement

He said, “I know where all our 17 schools, I mean 15 schools, are.”

Then said it was simply a mistake.

Miami: “From a Miami perspective, if you’ve recovered from bashing your head against the wall during that Phillips presser, nothing appears to be imminent. Approach this football season like Adrian Beltre approached a contract year. Make it so they can’t ignore your value. Leave no doubt.”

Also Miami: [Goes 5-7 again]

I just got through with the entire interview. He sounds defeated. His arguments are solely on moral value, and, like it or not, this became about economic value decades ago. It sounds like he’s simply hoping the GoRs holds everyone together. He wants all the schools to agree to a suicide pact. And that’s pretty much the only thing on the table as far as I can see.

How many schools needed to dissolve the GOR? If it is a majority, It won’t happen. You’d need 8 ACC schools going to greener pastures, but UVA/ VT and UNC/NCSt are attached at the hip. You would have to have the B1G taking UVA and UNC, because VT/NCSt aren’t AAU. I’m not sure NCSt brings enough value to the SEC.

Then you would have to pull 4 move from the remaining schools. GT, Clemson, FSU, and Miami add nothing to the SEC. They can just choke those schools out of the game financially. For the B1G, those schools vary in value. Pitt, Cuse, BC, and UL offer nothing to the SEC. Maybe the B1G could work some network money with Cuse and BC.

ND is a prize that diminishes as soon as it joins the B1G.

Wake and Duke aren’t going B1G or SEC.

I think I read the number is 6.

I dont think anybody is attached at the hip anymore in modern conference expansion. It's a different world than even 5 years ago. Any politician threatening legal action will either be ignored or bluff called in court.
