According to rivals, we now have 3 new

Do you think PJ's staff is just doing a better job selling Tech or do you think that Tech's attractiveness has implicitly increased with the addition of Paul Johnson?

Maybe the fact that UGA isn't offering as many kids this year and they wish to stay in-state?

There are really way too many factors involved with recruiting to pin point any determining factor for our recruiting success. Recruiting is not an exact science either since you are dealing with 17-18 year old kids trying to make life altering decisions (i.e. the staff could put just as much effort and emphasis on recruiting next year and have only 2 recruits at this point--sometimes it's just a crapshoot IMHO). That being said, here are some of the factors that I think are having a positive effect on our recruiting:

1. The previous staff finally made some inroads with many GA high schools and developed a blueprint on how to market GT's strengths and the current staff (with holdovers) are fully utilizing them.
2. Paul Johnson.
3. Early commitments have become more common nationwide, so it could just be systemic rather than specific to GT.
4. Focusing on GA talent first and foremost.
5. UGA has fewer schollies to give out this year.

That pretty much captures the essence of what's going on. Expanding on point #2, Georgia HS coaches are familiar with him (Sewak & Giff also) from his Georgia So. days. They know and like him and feel good about their kids going to play for him--with good reason.

He's also regarded as an offensive guru and an outstanding motivator.

don't overlook this offensive scheme and its benefits. The negatives are well talked about, but the benefits are huge. Think about the dozens if not hundreds of high school staffs that have visited tech already this year due to that offense. This helps recruiting. In spring, we have had more HS coaches visit tech than in Gailey's 6 years combined.

good point, 33. I think the new offensive scheme will really help by attracting the best option-oriented recruits as we are the premiere option-based BCS team now and there are literally thousands of HS teams running some form of the option. We should get 3-4 top flight dual threat QBs a year who will compete for the starting job, and the ones who don't get it will become A-backs, WRs or DBs with exceptional athleticism. At least that's what I'm hoping.

And - we have 'more' scholarships this year available than any year since Chan got here. Everybody forgets that we just got off probation, which Chan did a good job working through.

Two straight years minus 6 scholarships each, hurt. Then a year after that missed a little luster because of it.
