After the game thoughts...

I don't think UVA is going to be much of a challenge.

Unless we're somehow worried that GT is worse than Southern Miss.
We just have to hope that whatever deal CPJ make to break the curse of Hooville two years ago didn't involve losing games there in the future. I am borderline giddy about our next two opponents, however. I wonder if there's a way we can play BC instead of Miami. I think we could put the third string in at the start of the second half against BC.

I think I can win a beer off my old man again this year (He went to UVA).

Agreed, today turned out perfectly as far as I'm concerned. Of course, like always, I would've loved to have seen 1000 yards of offense and 79 points but today's game will pay off more in the long run, just enough scare to help keep them focused. I think if the defense can improve enough to at least become average we could be in for a ride. I was impressed with NC's defensive line, but still it wasn't enough. The way the offense is playing, so far really the only thing that has stopped them is themselves. We left 14 on the field today and still scored 35. Wait until they get in mid season form.

On another note, this was my 6 yr old daughter's first conference game (8th overall and still undefeated), so I had her all fired up, told her how the conference games are more important and the team really needs us to be loud. She responded well, she was loud enough to be heard let's put it that way. I'm hoarse.

Winning on the road and especially at UVA can be a challenge for a young team. Hard to tell at this point, the ACC has a lot of bipolar teams it seems.

Southern Miss is currently beating UVA @ UVA.

Our kickers are pathetic and will lose us a close game against a great team. #14 needs to play over #1. I'm tired of Laskey. He is no threat to return anything. He seems like he is the safe option. And his hands aren't fool proof. Let someone else return the ball.

I thought the defense played better today with the exception of the one big play and the first series. The offense is sick and Tevin looks great.

Laskey is a great returner. Reminds me of Rhino how he'll just take a straight line on his returns. Hasn't had a chance to do much with a punt return but as long as he isn't dropping them he keeps the job in my books. Today UNC got in the halo and it boggled Laskey, but he still hung on to the ball and kept it. Either way the ball would have stayed with Tech.

Another thing- Stephen Hill will return a kick for a touchdown if he continues being the kick returner. But I don't want him to be. On the kick return he had, the defenders went straight for his knees on the tackle, and it scared me. I personally don't want to see him back there to much anymore.

SH had at least one decent return but he seems to be a bit reckless the way that he holds the ball. OS was not getting anything, being too tentative on Kickoffs. We have got to find a solution to our own kickoffs, always short with returns often at the 35 or more. I think that CPJ talked about looking AGAIN at personnel there, those who do well in practice don't do that in games.

Just finished watching the individual highlight videos on ESPN:

In the last long run by Roddy in the 4th quarter...

1) Man, Roddy made a great play by catching that pitch. Was very close to being a fumble.

2) Tevin got nailed in what looks like a helmet-to-helmet hit, missed call?

Random thoughts:

Lasky is who I want back there. He doesn't drop punts.

Hill was on the stretcher golf cart with his leg wrapped up after his drop. I cannot get upset with Hill after his prior Calvinesque one-hander and his refuse-to-be-tackled-after-the-catch catch. He might could have caught it but he paid for a mulligan in the first half. Hill had fire in his belly today like I've never seen before.

UNC's D line is very good - we passed a BIG test today.

Gotta mention that Corso predicted we'd score 36 today.

Our offense is really good. If we can clean up those childish mistakes that prevented us from scoring, people are going to have a hard time stopping us. Now for our defense...when we were locked in during the first half we were pretty good. However, once UNC adjusted, we didn't. If our offense wasn't so good we would have lost that game. The sad thing is that our problems with the D seem to be simple problems like tackling, shedding blocks, etc. Like I said in another thread, if our defense begins to click and finally gets the fundamentals down, we will be a really good football team and I think 10 or 11 wins could be a possibility.
We block with a real vengance. David Sims is a blocking machine. That is why he is the starter. He blocks--blocks exceedingly well.

Sims is by far the best blocker we've had at B-back and we'll see more of these plays where he is the lead blocker.

Herbie picked us to lose though. And he has been a CPJ supporter in the past, maybe he just thought that UNC was too stout.

On the Stephen Hill drop, he said in the post game interview that the leg problem came on just before the ball got there and distracted him. I don't think we played another down after that.

Even if you want to give him a hard time about teh drop, I don't think anyone will deny he is a huge part of our offense and we need him healthy. Aren't those hamstring injuries sometimes hard to get healed? Seems like we've had guys miss months with them. Every time they thought it was coming around they would play and bam! it's come back on 'em. If there is any chance of it not being ready, I'd say let's let keep him on the sidelines next week.
