AJC: As losses take toll, pressure rises on Georgia Tech’s Geoff Collins, Todd Stansbury

If they don’t fire him this week I’m absolutely done with Georgia Tech football. It’s clear that Georgia Tech just doesn’t give a shot and has abandoned football.

Good God. I was unaware that we paid Temple for this clown. Is there another school that gives out coaching contracts with incredibly bad terms? GT is literally a case study in what not to do when hiring a coach.

My hatred of TDope grows even more--didn't think that was possible.
THis. It does seem that this scenario gets worse and worse.

I don't disagree with the 7 year deal because frankly I don't believe anybody wouldve signed up here for less unless it was another option coach that wasnt changing schemes. But the buyout crap is ridiculous. TStan should be fired for that ineptitude. The buyout should have been significantly reduced after the 3rd year, and subsequently lower for each year after that also. Not only is it the dumbest thing ever that it goes until Jan 1 for the buyout but get this, if Collins were to leave on his own accord for another job, the buyout date on his side starts at 12/1 every year. So somebody had the wherewithal to know that 12/1 date was needed because that the end of CFB regular season, yet didnt bother to adjust GTs buyout date to reflect that. Plus like 4 other idiots besides TStan signed that thing, even a member of GTs legal contract review team.
should have been some specific metric requirements too. how can you allow a coach to show zero improvement, with no repercussions.

Yet another idiotic move by TStan. Not only did he give a mediocre Temple coach a 7 year contract, but the buyout doesn't even drop after the regular season ends. Pure idiocy.
This is the part that bothers me, and that I didn’t realize until a week ago. The buyout drops AFTER the early signing period. If this season continues as it is currently and we don’t fire Collins during the season, our recruiting is screwed.

If you want to know the "whats, whys, whens & hows," here's the link to the appropriate GTAA site. Recommended reading - it's nine pages, but has a two or three relevant paragraphs - GTAA Board of Trustees Bylaws - particularly as pertains to salaries & hirings & firings of Head Football & Basketball Coaches & the AD.

At the end of the day, it's called "Due Process."

That said, what I'm seeing:

Stansbury may be gone, but mostly for hiring, then standing by Collins. Todd has a very thin chance to survive this if he doesn't fight to keep Collins, but it certainly doesn't look good for the current AD. Non-rev sports have done well, but the only ones who care are the non-rev athletes, their parents, and the coaches.

Collins will be gone after the Duke game. Buyout's been raised. The process has started, but it is by necessity & fairness a lengthy legal road of due process. You can thank Pepper Rodgers for that - you YoungFarTekkers can go look up why.

President Cabrera, currently out of the country, but scheduled to be in Orlando this Saturday with Stansbury, is Stansbury's boss and chairs the GTAA Board of Trustees (BoT). The GTAA BoT has approval (2/3 vote required) over hiring & firing of the Head Football & Basketball coaches and the AD. Next GTAA BoT meeting is the regular quarterly meeting on 13 Oct, the Thursday after Duke. With Duke being Homecoming, that meeting might get moved up or a special ad hoc meeting might be held that weekend. Gives 10 days to get the staff re-organized & workups for UVA.

OC Chip Long will be named Interim HFC. No idea about the rest of the staff, but JMNSHO, I can see an Interim DC being named.

THWG!

This might be the most informative post ever made on stingtalk.

Temple actually got worse during his tenure also.
How do we win the “someone dumber than us takes a ööööty coach off our hands” lottery? We did it with Collins, Gregory and Pastner, all of their fans were thrilled when we signed them (-and we paid the schools to do it!)

Allowing him back into BDS and subjecting the players to the öööö storm coming their direction is messed up. It'll all be directed towards Collins, but from their perspective, it'll be indistinguishable. It's gonna make me angry and sad if Georgia Tech knowingly forces the players into that situation.

He's gonna have to be fired before the Duke game.

We managed to get someone to take Nix and that defensive coach who went to FSU. Crap, can't remember his name
