AJC: As losses take toll, pressure rises on Georgia Tech’s Geoff Collins, Todd Stansbury

things only get worse the longer they wait.
New AD if there would need a little time.
blowing the HC timing probably means major damage to this yr potential recruiting class...
stupid stupid contract to have not considered early signing day (in our favor)

$12.1 million in lost revenue is about $1 million per game, so if that holds true then that total might be up to $15 million now, maybe $16 million. We're still holding on to him despite the fact he's lost us more revenue than it would cost to fund his buyout. A new coach would regain that lost revenue and theoretically pay for 50% of the financial damage in 1 season. Yet, off to Orlando we go.
Yeah seems like someone needs to help GTAA's accounting team on sunk cost, and projected run-rates. Continuing to run farther in the red, rather than make a smart business decision...

Given that the timing is Dec. 31 it almost insures that we will not be involved in the prime candidates unless we fire him now. We can't afford to wait until Dec. 31.
We are not going to be involved in any prime candidates regardless for a long time.

While I agree with you , we need to get Collins out of the picture, just so we can hope to get us a mid-tier coach. Somebody able to get us back to going to bowl games and winning competitively. Sure I would love to have a top tier coach, but waiting until late December to fire CGC would be eliminating us from any worth their salt.

If you want to know the "whats, whys, whens & hows," here's the link to the appropriate GTAA site. Recommended reading - it's nine pages, but has a two or three relevant paragraphs - GTAA Board of Trustees Bylaws - particularly as pertains to salaries & hirings & firings of Head Football & Basketball Coaches & the AD.

At the end of the day, it's called "Due Process."

That said, what I'm seeing:

Stansbury may be gone, but mostly for hiring, then standing by Collins. Todd has a very thin chance to survive this if he doesn't fight to keep Collins, but it certainly doesn't look good for the current AD. Non-rev sports have done well, but the only ones who care are the non-rev athletes, their parents, and the coaches.

Collins will be gone after the Duke game. Buyout's been raised. The process has started, but it is by necessity & fairness a lengthy legal road of due process. You can thank Pepper Rodgers for that - you YoungFarTekkers can go look up why.

President Cabrera, currently out of the country, but scheduled to be in Orlando this Saturday with Stansbury, is Stansbury's boss and chairs the GTAA Board of Trustees (BoT). The GTAA BoT has approval (2/3 vote required) over hiring & firing of the Head Football & Basketball coaches and the AD. Next GTAA BoT meeting is the regular quarterly meeting on 13 Oct, the Thursday after Duke. With Duke being Homecoming, that meeting might get moved up or a special ad hoc meeting might be held that weekend. Gives 10 days to get the staff re-organized & workups for UVA.

OC Chip Long will be named Interim HFC. No idea about the rest of the staff, but JMNSHO, I can see an Interim DC being named.

THWG!
Thanks dude.

The timing of the buyout is horrendous. Stansbury should never have another job anywhere near an athletic department. Even as janitor.

Given the timing, there was also no reason not to fire Gef at the end of last year. This season had to surprise absolutely no one. Except Tod, I guess.
Not firing him last year was justified primarily with the excuse that the buyout would be reduced and we needed to save the money. Now that the specifics of the contract are known we never should have accepted that rational. Having to wait until Jan 1st 2023 does far to much damage to the 2023 season.

This is one coaching search that I am staying the hell out of.

There are not many supporters of Tech – the team or the school – more loyal than Paul and his wife, Janis. A member of the Class of 1969, Paul first bought season tickets in 1971 and held them every year through 2021, 51 consecutive seasons... Paul said he has attended virtually every Tech home game since 1965... But after last season, the Pauls decided, while they’ll continue to support the institute and other Jackets teams, they would let their football season tickets lapse.

My goodness could there be a more damning statement than this? One of the most loyal long time supporters, sat through some bad football in the 70s, but this clown finally runs off one of our most loyal fans? Wow. TStan and Collins should both be left on the tarmac in Orlando Saturday and they can uber back home...

They just didn’t want to see the progress.

It’s quite simple. In today’s world, it’s about the money. Until gt collects and spends big dollars for a good coach and assistants and competitive facilities, nothing will change.

But what if Tech wins?
