Am I the only one who is thinking this?

Bartender, I'll have what he's drinking
They don’t serve that at the bar. If you want that, you have to go to the alley behind the bar.

Kidding aside, I am betting the farm we get to a modest bowl this year.

The season comes down to Sims and the DL. If both suck, 2-10. If one sucks, 4-8. If both good, 6-6.

Yes, 6-6 is the ceiling for this team.

The OL and the DL. If the OL is not significantly better there is nothing Sims can do.

I know the schedule isn’t easy. But this is year 4. There are seven winnable games in the ACC plus WC. If we do not go bowling Collins has to go.

I share your optimism about the offense. But they are going to have to score a lots of points, because I just don’t see the defense being any better than mediocre.

I have finally realized the value of the triple option and possessing the football on offense and keeping the D off the field. Paul Johnson knew what he was doing.
I agree with a ball controlling offense. However; I do think it was time for the CPJ to end. What we needed is a coach that could slowly transition us to a RPO or whatever they wanted to end up with. Collins comes in, with some pipe dreams and no idea how to make it happen. As my mom used to the say "The theory is good, the application was bad". I agree, this is the year that we see Ws. I am just saying, I don't think it happens. Word salads and repetitive excuses only can go so far. I'm shocked, Geoff has gotten 3 years of the same thing, over and over. I think there was such a hard core CPJ hater group, that Collins can do no wrong, to them. Oddly similar to our current political situation.

I’m not really concerned with the OL. They are what they are, and last year they were good enough to win six games, but Yates, play-calling, and Sims’ immaturity held us back (on offense, at least). Two of those items are [theoretically] fixed with a new OC and a healthy and older Sims. They don’t need to be good enough this year for Yates to win six. We have a healthy Sims, but can he step up and allow us to see all that he brings to the table?

I absolutely expect us to win more games, but my “whys” aren’t normal. It won’t be because we have better coaching, schemes, or talent. It’s because sports has ups and downs.

1) We can’t be any worse than last year. That was rock bottom and I thank Kennesaw for fumbling the ball as much as they did.
2) We got zero play from the QB position last season. Even though I don’t buy into Long being the savior I know enough that Long will punch someone in the face if the QB plays like a sophomore in high school and the head coach keeps him in.
3 We got the breaks in 1 game last year - UNC and we got a seasons worth of them in that game alone. They should spread out this year.
4) Our DB’s were the worse position group I’ve ever seen on any GT team (worse than the OLine) so we should at least break up a few more plays.

But the question is after we start off 1-4, will our team just give up or will they play hard enough the second half to get those extra wins.

7-5 ceiling
I think the ceiling can be 7. However; that requires the offense to come out shooting bullets. It also requires the defense to had gotten better, much better. The "communication" with the DBs have to be fixed. I think we can beat UCF, Duke, FSU, UVA, VT and Miami, if we are on our game. WC is/should be a give me. However; if I use my logic. I understand, we're still a young team. We are installing a new offensive scheme and they will make errors. We still have a questionable defense. With all that said, my expectations are 3 wins. If we do better, great! But, we have a lot to prove, this year, regardless.

That OL may have been good enough to win 6 games in D-II. 89th in sack rate. 120th in standard down sack rate. 93rd in passing down sack rate. All with very mobile QBs.

Didn’t matter who played QB behind that abomination.

With being younger mistakes will happen but can be certian improvement will be there to

We won three games with a really bad backup and an oft-injured Soph. You don’t think we find a way to win three more with a healthy and improved Sims? I think you could argue that if Sims plays (or plays better) we win three between NIU, Miami, BC, Clemson, VT, or UVA.

The problem is that he DIDN’T improve much, and when he wasn’t in, you’re trying to overcome the significant limitations of Yates. On top of that, the OC is often calling a bad game.

No, I’m convinced this OL is “good enough” to go .500. Make no mistake this is not a “good” OL. Tons of room for improvement, but our offensive success is 100% on Sims this year.

You’re not the only one thinking it. Just the only one saying it out loud.

How can you tell when he no time to throw in any of those games? We beat the two worst teams on our schedule and only beat UNC because of Sim’s legs.

The only way you blame a QB for that offense is if you don’t know jack about football
