Georgia Tech
"Geoff (Collins) has spent over a year managing the expectations in a very public way, which is divisive in the coaching community."

"On one hand, they're totally deficient at a lot of key positions, which is what you would expect from a team coming off the triple option. They don't have ACC-caliber receivers, their offensive line is a mess and they could only be very vanilla on offense."

"On the other hand, this was a successful program a few years ago. The defense has identifiable talent and some guys who would see time on other teams."

"They picked their QB (James Graham) and rode him good or bad, which is a smart move. They turned the ball over constantly, and they couldn't run. Fix those two things and they'll up their win total."

"Once they can get a little more consistent on offense, it allows them to get loose and fast on defense. Collins knows how to wreck you. You should see a jump this season in the front, they're going to play the run better, they're going to rush the quarterback better."

"Yeah, they're in Atlanta, but Tech has never had a modern identity. So far they haven't exploded in recruiting or anything."

"They will likely end up a better team with the same record."

I don’t think you could sum up how bare the cupboard was better than an opposing coach saying we have “some guys who would see time on other teams.”

Comments all seem pretty fair for GT. The FSU commentary cuts pretty deep at what the league thought of Taggart

Consistently stating the GT job is “the largest rebuild in college football history” probably rubs the old coaching staff the wrong way.

Boo hoo. I was over the moon when we hired Paul Johnson. But back in 08’ when we hired him, I immediately fast-forwarded to the thought of how tough it would be at GT whenever he left/retired.

Facts are facts. It be what it be.

I don’t see how you could look at our defensive roster (to what that comment was referring) and say the cupboard was bare. We should be pretty stout on defense this year and Clayton is really the only guy that’s expected to be relied upon that CGC brought in.

DT was weak as it has been seemingly forever outside of Richard/Walker. But everywhere else we had the deepest defensive cupboard since ‘08. Secondary especially was fully stocked.

Coach speak for coach speak about making excuses.

This is what it’s talking about.

Ehh sort of but I think he was more blaming the system shift than the players. He talks about the OL being a lot bigger now (which is debatable) but he never really says that they weren’t effective before - just that he needs them to be bigger for his system.

I also think the coach(es) who made that comment were more bh about beating a team and then listening to their coach explain why it wasn’t an impressive win b/c we’re rebuilding. To which I say öööö em. He’s not looking out for their feelings. He’s trying to do what’s best for us.

Miami

"They really looked embarrassing at times last season. Losing to that Georgia Tech team is inexcusable."
Miami still has delusions they are still an elite program. They are no better in Florida nowadays than UCF. If they were to play a series with UCF, UCF wins half the games.

Yep. Never in the history of Georgia Tech has Duke fielded a roster that is bigger stronger and faster than GT than it’s been the past 4 years. But that’s about to change!

Are you friggin’ kidding me? We have had the sorriest linebackers and DL for the last six years under Paul Johnson.

So far this year, you're not hearing a lot of the year 1 talk. I've watched all the camp pressers, and last year it was a constant deluge of rebuild talk. You're not getting that right now. Collins main talking point is size improvement from the offseason workouts and the "top 2 recruiting class in GT history".

Of course, if we trot out the gate 0-2, 0-3, it'll be interesting to see if some blame continues to get shifted to the past.

The rise of USF and UCF really hurts Miami long term. The old Miami has the pick of all those kids. I think that is the real problem there.

It's different at FSU. That program has simply been mismanaged, but I don't think the fundamentals for success have been altered. Hell, they were champs just 6 years ago. They will be back eventually, once they get the right staff in place. No idea if Mike Norvell and staff are good are not, time will tell.

We were good at Safety and ok at corner. Everything else is deficient. DL was not good and Brandon Adams passing exacerbated it, as well. LB has been really weak for quite awhile.

Clayton is not the only guy. Myles Sims and Derrick Allen will both play a lot. Mike Lockhart will play a lot. Demetrius Knight was signed by CPJ but Collins is the one that moved him to LB.

Whaa? Didn't we just sign the best recruiting class in like the last 15 years or something? I thought it was pretty well accepted that we have exploded in leaps and bounds with our recruiting.
