Any insight on whether Tenuta stays??

I go away for 5 days on a duck hunt for my birthday and find out that Paul Johnson was named GT's head coach which I am thrilled about. It was a nice birthday present.

However, has anyone heard any word on whether we will be able to retain Tenuta? I would imagine that Tenuta would relish the chance to be a DC alongside PJ, but who knows. If PJ had Tenuta at DC I imagine we could be pretty deadly.

Any indications

In my OPINION, I say that Tenuta stays...He has a good bit of talent returning on the D next year & has some good defensive recruits wanting to play for him next year...so he's already got a lot invested in the program...Plus now we've got an offensive genius taking over the program that is building a staff that Tenuta has relationships with...so you know it peaks his interest to have a system in place that is capable of generating HIGH scoring games...I would say though that the AD and atletic dept will have to step up again & give JT a healthy raise to keep him he re though...so it's basically going to pivot based on what we're able to offer $$ & w/ the current players in place vs. $$$$ and the open market opps...
60% stays / 40% leaves...

Here are the rumors / speculation:

On the GT front, people are saying the PJ might bring Mike Sewak, former GSU HC and OC under PJ, as an assistant. This might help keep Tenuta because he and Sewak were apparently college roommates.

On the LSU front, people are saying that they are going to pay Tenuta $600K per year to their DC. If that is accurate, it does not seem possible we could match that number.

It's all up in the air right now, but it seems that PJ would like to keep Tenuta.

I also hope that Tenuta can be retained.

I got to thinking about the discussion of Tenuta's D and the criticism of it at various points during the last six years and formed the opinion that his defense will be much, much better under Johnson than it was under Gailey.

As assumption I made is that our scoring output increases quite a bit under CPJ.

I think the biggest difference will be that our defense really has no idea what its like to play with a big lead (occasional exceptions - e.g., 2006 Gator Bowl notwithstanding).

I think Tenuta's D will be much better for two reasons. The first, obviously, is more rest. I expect our time of posession to increase under CPJ so our D won't be as exhausted in the fourth quarter. Secondly, I think our D is predicated on anticipation and its a lot easier to anticipate when you have a big enough lead that the other team is in catch-up mode. Unlike Chan's offense, Tenuta's defense does a lot of real-time reads and adjusts accordingly. This plays right into our hands when the other team is in hurry-up-and-score mode.

Don't have time at the moment, but I recall our record while CJT was here was pretty dang impressive when the Offense put up 21 points or more.

And I expect, in due time, that 21 ppg won't be as uncommon as it used to be. We'll see I suppose but I bet Tenuta's D will be a lot better complimenting CPJ's Offense than it was with CCG's offense.

Doesn't JT have a son thats getting close to finishing HS? I can't remember if I read that somewhere or not so I might just be making it up, but may be some insentive to stay at GT for a year or so unless its a promotion to HC.

I hear Les Miles hasn't spoken to IHCJT since Miles had his press conference to say he was staying.

And I can't see the contract being an issue if CPJ wants to keep him (and he wants to stay).

JT's son is a senior in high school this year I believe.

You are aware that we pay CJT $400k now, aren't you?

Big John - what's the scouting report on that boy of yours? Do you have him pushing refrigerators around to perfect his drive blocking technique :-)?

Boys got a chip on his shoulder as well. He grew a lot mentally this past year. He's wrestling now for the Walton group. He is hilarious on the mat. To him it's like WWF and he gets away with it. His first match is at the Walton Classic Saturday. I gots plans for him lol.

Holy crap. What a man-child.
