are we ALWAYS going to be INSECURE about this offense....

got into an argument with my father recently where he stated that LSU w/ their athletes and month to prepare was doom for our style of offense.

I think this arguement is BS. We DID NOT EXECUTE and we lost. In ALL our losses we failed to execute.

Did UF "figure out" OU's offense? NO. Stoops made some poor decisions IMO and they failed to execute.

Until we actually execute and lose we should be a little more confident with our gameplan.

There is nothing to "figure out". When we execute properly, there is nothing a team can do to fully stop us. The option guarantees that.

We'll see. The jury is still out on how successful the offense can be. We've seen that it CAN be successful, but we've also seen it be wildly inconsistent and look like it is a (pardon the term) high school offense in some games.

In time, this offense will resemble more of the Florida offense that we saw last night than the offense we ran this year. It's an evolving beast, and CPJ is the brains of the beast. I'm stoked to see what we can do.

It's amazing how tall a pedestal people have put LSU's players. Our O is a precision based deal and just being a little off can wreak havoc and it did. JSU's coach said they had 6 month's to prepare for it and couldn't stop it when it was at it's worst. To go from 45 vs ugag to 3 vs LSU is not explainable via LSU's GREAT athletes.

LSU's players are good, no make that damned good, but they are NOT night and day ahead of ugag's, Miami's, Clemson's, fsu's, and VT's players. My guess is they lose 3 against this list.

As for concerns about our system, how did people do against Navy the 3rd and 4th time they'd seen it?

Exactly. Just like any other offense it comes down to winning the individual match-ups. The only thing different from our offense in comparison to the new "traditional" offenses is the approach we take to creating those one on one match-ups.

It's the like the 4th down stop by UF in the MNC game last night. My wife was griping about the play-call and I pointed out that it didn't matter what play they called. When the DT whips the ass of his man as thoroughly as Florida's did the play is basically dead as soon as it started.

IMO, Many things went wrong vs. LSU, so blaming the Triple Option for the loss is not appropiate.

It was only the first year for the players and it yielded great results. With more experience plus the depth arriving at various positions in the next couple of years the future is very bright!

GT fans are insecure about everything. Why should the offense be any different?

We have a winner folks. We have a half empty, glass is too dirty, water nor purified, water is warm type of fan base.

If you can't block it doesn't matter who's in the backfield and that offense their running because its not going to work. Not sure why this is so hard to understand.

Posted this on another thread. Mark May made a good point last night during halftime.

BTW, did anyone watch ESPN at halftime last night? Mark May made an interesting comment regarding high potent offenses and the layoff -- all the teams with high potent offenses (he mentioned OU, TT, Texas, Missouri) all of them had rust, which may have been due to the long layoff. He did not mention us in this, but when he said it, I thought of our offense could apply as well.

I agree that blocking is everything, but LSU did have SOMETHING to do with beating us.

Most teams try to stop everything. And discipline is their key to slowing down the option. Others blow up the line of scrimmage and no offense can be successful if that happens consistently.

LSU decided to stop Dwyer and Jones (or whatever pitch man we had) and gamble that Nesbitt couldn't beat them. He was right, for that game at least.

It is smart for a defense to take away your favorite weapons and force you to beat them left-handed.

Of course, the way LSU played our offense had nothing to do with fumbling a punt, getting caught flat-footed on an onside kick, or running a fake punt in our own territory when they were obviously prepared.

We had other games when teams stopped the offense for most of the game, but in those game our defense kept us in the game.

The only thing I'm insecure about, for this offensive system, is ball security. I don't believe it's possible for a team with this system to go a season without having at least a couple 3 turnover games. I think once it starts to click, though, it might not matter.

I'm far more insecure about our defense.

I think the defense is probably the weak point right now, but doesn't necessarily mean it will be. I have heard from all over the place that T.J. Barnes will be an awesome DT, so that counts for something. I think once Cooper Taylor and Rashaad Reid actually get a spring practice in as starters (both were thrown into the fire midway through season cause of injuries), they will improve as well.

My main worry on defense is how our linebackers will, not sure if we're bringing in anyone new at that position.

Who is this "we" you speak of? I'm not insecure at all.

Fumbled punt, onsides kick mistake, Bebe gets butterfingers all led to an insurmountable lead in the first half. Looking at the tape, we were not outclassed physically. Eliminate ridiculous errors and we would have been in the game at the half and things might have gone differently. Sometimes when you let the other team get so far ahead, even when you continue to play hard the opponent gets so energized and emboldened that they play at an even higher level. Our mistakes let LSU get a sniff of a blowout and they responded.
We will be insecure not because of the triple option, but because of our defense. We are not going to win shootouts like Georgia and FSU for example very often.

Any "insecurity" will vanish once a BCS or NC banner is hung at Grant field--but even then there will be some who will see doom and gloom on the horizon!

I believe we set out to pass more against LSU. JN looked uncomfortable in doing so. He over threw on several occasions. Yes, our O-line was manhandled by there D-line.

Once we install more passing on a regular basis, and become more comfortable, teams cannot focus exclusively on the run. I've always stated the 3-0 is much more effective when you can pass.

Don't worry. We are getting there.

We will never win a bowl game because teams have time to prepare for our offense

Just ask Navy, PJ NEVER won a bowl game at.... wait, nevermind.

While I am happy that PJ's Triple O attack passed the overall test this year, I think there were enough times that it was contained by superior line and linebacker play that PJ has to pass more than he may be comfortable with naturally in the TO. For sure more than he did at Navy.

Our O Line should be better next year, but I hope PJ really does craft some nifty pass plays and puts up the ball more next year. I worry a little about Josh this way. The guy is a true winner but watching his high school highlights online, he lobbed the ball, he didn't throw laser like. If he lobs the ball now he will have a lot of them picked. But he throws the ball now a lot harder and has obviously changed his delivery to correct this. Problem is, the consistent accuracy still is not there. I hope he works hard on this over the offseason.

The thing I am most insecure about going into next year is the Defense. It truly melted down in the last two games. I think we will have to score a lot of points next year until some new stars emerge on the D side of the ball.
