Article - how Atlanta became the CFB capital

I suppose we have more advantages in that regard today since the gap is smaller than it was and we have degrees available for those who couldn't handle an engineering course load. Really we have so many different way we shoot ourselves in the foot when it comes to recruiting and marketing, I don't see the difficulty of academics as the major turnoff. We have simply not been doing the best we can. Which is why I don't buy the Tech football can't be salvaged bs.

What IS the major turnoff if it isn't academic/major related either directly (i.e "not here to play school, here to play football") or indirectly (i.e the Ratio and the sizable portion of nerd student/alumni body that is apathetic about sports and won't come to games?). Granted the ratio sure as hell aint what it used to be so kudos to the biomed school, etc...

I hope for some specificity in your answer and not just more "we need to try and stuff". To be direct, what, in your mind, constitutes doing the best we can and can you show where we fall short of that standard objectively?

People are scared by the curriculum. My cousin almost went elsewhere because she had a bunch of people harping on how hard Tech is and how another college would be more fun. She finished her CE and is now working on her masters at Tech.

I talked to a guy recently who is a very smart and accomplished guy. One of his daughters is finishing the GT/Emory bio med program. His high school aged son wants to be an engineer but is looking at Clemson and Auburn because he does not think he will survive Tech. That is his dads words.

It is what it is.

It had absolutely NOTHING to do with his attitude about anything. In fact, Dodd never had any problem playing against integrated teams when others did. He simply knew that the bigger state universities would throw the calculus books at those kids with even more fervor.

Not directing this at you, but it absolutely flabbergasts me how Tech fans will get on here and ridicule not only one of their very own, but also a magnificent coach and mentor to men who helped shape what Atlanta is now. Amazing!
SMH

Donnie Sue, do not be flabbergasted any longer.

We eat our own. Get over it already. It is never as bad as it is. Relish the Bowl game of GSU if you don’t like it.

Paul drinks cosmos.

Coach Sewak, love him or leave.

We got Woody!

Roll Tide!

UCF National Champs!

SEC Consolation Game.

I have no earthly idea what you are talking about

The following really doesn't deserve its own thread so I'll post it here, but here is another example of how the deck is either stacked against Tech or Tech is doing a horrible job marketing itself or both...my 15 yo auditioned for District Band a few weeks back, and we had to travel to Washington-Wilkes HS. It was a weekend so not much staff there really, and I had never been there previously. Naturally, I took a look inside some of the classrooms and found some where the teachers had adorned their room(s) with UGAg stuff which is not uncommon even in my kids' schools. Lots of UGAg grad teachers out there who use that pulpit to show their pride. I don't think it has a place there, but I am sure I am in the general minority. Anyway, WWHS had a hall ostensibly dedicated to college recruiting. Posters were hanging on both sides with the following GA schools represented (in no particular order and yes I made a list):

  • Athens Tech
  • Georgia Southern
  • Georgia College & State U
  • Middle Georgia
  • Clark Atlanta
  • Savannah St
  • Augusta Tech
  • West Georgia
  • Georgia Military College
  • Abraham Baldwin
  • North Georgia
  • UGAg
  • Georgia State
  • Augusta University
  • Valdosta State
  • Kennesaw State
Anyway, I suppose one could argue there might not be many Tech candidates coming out of WWHS and GT doesn't belong in that list, but that seems like such a defeatist attitude. I was kind of shocked actually, but then, not really.
