Good! It deserves to be in a prominent place. Mr. Castleberry gave his life fighting to keep us free from tyranny! I have always thought it was so neat that Clint Castleberry's number 19 is the only one Tech has retired.

I think I like almost all of it. Castleberry gets a place of his own. The ATL and 4 trophies are nice touches. The navy end zone looks sweet, and so does the gold one (I assume it’ll be either-or?). I like the idea of the Good Word sign, though the design feels a little basic. The lettering on Wardlaw looks cool. Still not sold on our font, but it is what it is.

Hope we do cool stuff with the lighting - just flashing it on and off in the video was a little meh.

Most of all, I hope we can keep the damn PA and scoreboard working for 6 games, and avoid any stupid unforced errors in the AV presentation.

Looking forward to seeing it all in person in a couple of weeks.

So I got the opportunity to design the field, which was a dream come true. I wrote about it here: http://www.thesportsdesignblog.com/2020/09/03/i-really-designed-the-georgia-tech-football-field/

I tried tons of different things (that I can't share), and I'm happy with where things ended up. I pushed for gold end zones but did also show the two different-colored ones, and they really liked the idea. I do, too, and at least they're not green — and one is gold. :) And it's painted for each game, so each week is out of my control. ;)

Like I said in the blog post, I tried some stuff that was way out there and actually had a favorite that got to the end until we realized it was against the rules around how it met the goal line. It was similar to where we ended up, just a little more unique. But I'm pumped that I got to design the ATL logo and add the trophies to the end zones.

I saw it in person the other day, and it looks great.

I'd like to know more about the backstory as to how you got the work but I understand you not sharing it. Nonetheless, great work and congratulations.
 
Interesting, so we’re really going with different color end zones? Feels a little weird, but I do like how the sideline colors match the end zone colors.

Is it just me, or does the lettering look larger in the navy end zone? Might be an optical illusion.

I wonder if they could do some of the more complex end zone designs (a skyline design sounds pretty sick) for one-off special occasions. How hard is it to wash off the paint and something different?

The stingers on the sidelines made for a weird hourglass optical illusion, too - I’m kinda glad those didn’t make the cut.

I’m glad we’ve actually got folks thinking about this stuff - I hope eventually that same level of care goes into the AV production.

What an opportunity! I'm definitely extremely jealous. My critique:

- white and gold GT at midfield is perfect. Crisp. Blue border on the floating logo always looks horrible and bad for the brand. Wish they would have taken the same care with the other GT logos throughout the stadium signage.

- ATL logos are perfectly understated and not garish. "T" in gold is a great touch.

- solid gold endzone with white lettering bordered in navy should be the default. That is our brand. It's perfect. My only nit to pick is that it would be much cleaner and on brand to border the endzone with gold instead of navy.

- I would never use solid navy endzones ever. Would have been interesting to see a white endzone with gold letters bordered in navy if we have to have an alternate solid endzone.

Beyond the field:

- lighted signage on the wardlaw definite upgrade. Going to pop at night for sure.

- signage throughout the stadium is new and crisp but all navy blue. Stansbury loves him some blue.

- Castleberry tribute is much more prominent as it should be

Interesting that they pushed back against both gold end zones for some reason because that would’ve looked really good. But congrats man, looks really good!!

think it might just be showing the two schemes off for now, but they can paint it different each week, so who knows.

I know I'd prefer them be the same (and be gold) but overall this looks really good. love the ATL with gold T.

The linked blog post indicates that people really liked the different colored end zones. Could vary, but it sounds like it’s at least on the table.
