As more information is now becoming public

I completely agree with jacketup.
We see this year in and year out all over D-1 sports. The not-so-successful programs are always looking for mosses to come lead them and are willing to pay millions for a chance to have the new Messiah. The Petrinos of the world bank on it. There are so many variables in and out of the coaches control that make or break coaches (and players) BUt whatever PJ does, it takes much much more than a great coach and great players to sustain a winning program. Coaches and players come and go, but the great programs live on. You gotta ask yourself why? (if you're the big donars who shell out the money for these million dollar coaches)

I have no Idea if PJ is going to win big here at GT or not and neither does anyone else. Like jacketup said..it's a risk.
I must respectfully disagree. Paul Johnson will prove to be an excellent hire. He will cause limitless grief to football factories around the South who have the misfortune to schedule Tech. He has done in a fortnight what Chan could not do in 6 years: namely unite the fan base. He has said that this will be his last coaching job. Sounds as though he means business.

(

Names like Neuheisel, Terry Bowden, and many more. In fact, Bud Foster (Probably one of the top 3 DC's in the country and a most wanted man (See Steve Spurrier trying hard to get him) Bud pushed very hard to get the job saying he wanted to go to a major School like GT that had a chance to win championships)

I'm sure you know this but Neuheisel and TB are not in high demand. they are BEGGING for interviews. I think our search proved we had a decent gig but those two prove nothing.

Heisman, Dodd, Johnson. :laugher:

sorry somebody had to do it. i'm optimistic...but the last job line can be tacky as hell.

i'm actually pretty excited. i think CPJ will most likely be starting JN next year running option plays and misdirections to spread the field. it's definitely going to be more exciting than 3 straight direct snaps to TC to set up a fg (which we miss) against NC.

I don't think most hated chan....It was more like we gave up on him after the same ol' sh!t for six years. Time to move on!
Hate is a strong word. If anything, I'd say I was ambivalent. O'leary had just left and we needed someone, but I wasn't all that excited about Gailey and never really felt that he was the right person for the job. Write off the past 6 years as a prolonged rebound relationship.

There's no denying that a lot of people hated Gailey. And there's no denying that both schools fans expectations suffer from some of the same symptoms.

But like I said, the major difference between Tech and Arkansas is class. We're not yelling 'suuuuweeeee!' rolling out the doormat for a scumbag.

Thanks for reassuring us. I think I speak for ALL GT fans when I say we were all very worried about the coaching search. Personally and I think Most everyone would agree, I just couldn't Fathom GT being able to hire a top notch coach like PJ. I thought we'd be scouring the D-2 ranks or maybe be lucky enough to get a position coach from the pros.

I cannot tell you how excited I was when I found out that coaches ACTUALLY WANTED to come to GT. I mean, who could imagine. We're a downtown campus in the heart and epicenter of the Southeast, where college football is king, on a beautiful campus in a major sports market, with a tradition rivaled by very few. A history that boasts of Heisman, Alexander, Dodd, and Ross.

Thanks for putting my fears at rest as I wasn't sure if GT would be able to lure a top notch coach.

Unlike many on this or any other board I felt sure that when Gailey was gone that many and I do mean many good to great coaches would be available to Tech and that many would want to coach here. Many of you don't know that Tech was contacted almost immediately after Gailey's firing by a slew of guys who wanted to come here. I never understood the "who can we get" mentality. Tech may not be a Mich or ND or OSU type institute but I knew deep down that Tech was no Po Dunk U either.

Agreed, however, some of that is due to when and how Gailey was let go. Had he been fired at the time and in the manner you and your ilk harped on endlessly for years, our options would have been more limited.

Not to say we couldn't have gotten a good coach, but we wouldn't have had the numbers and quality to choose from that we did this time around.

Since I know reading and comprehension is not your strong suit, let me be clear: Had Gailey been fired during a season, had he been fired after a winning season when 10 athletes flunked out, had he been fired after winning the ACC Coastal division, many coaches wouldn't have been so eager to come to Atlanta.

However, he was fired after blowing a golden opportunity for the Orange bowl, and after having a big let down season with perhaps the best personnel we've had in a decade. Coaches saw a reasonable decision was made in letting him go, plus that there's a good bit of talent here.

That's an absolute total crock of bull****. Sure, we may have been contacted by 'a slew of guys', but there is no way in the world that there were 'many good to great coaches' doing the contacting. Those coaches either have a great job already, knew about our well-publicized financial position, or would accept the special restrictions in recruiting here, or had excessive baggage that tarnished their good- to great-ness.

Stop talking out your ass and name names.

Old Foggy is right on this one.
I know for a fact that GT had some high profile coach's VERY interested in coaching here. Some of these names will not be made public.

What is a Crock, Is people that keep saying we can't attract the very best coach's. That is the Crock and the point of my original post.
It was and will ALWAYS be a matter of money. The heavy hitter or two stepped up to the plate with the money this time.

Gt's rich tradition, city of Atlanta, ACC will always be a high profile job that will attract top flight coach's. Contrary to what the few half cup empty Gt fan's or the bulldog media types would want everyone else to believe!
