At least we aren't Tennessee

Les may have an occasional brain fart, maybe he'll cost you a close game once every couple of years. But he won nearly 80 percent of his games at LSU. Nobody stumbles into that kind of record without being a heck of a coach. That's some crazy talk.

Butch was a good recruiter, too.

great recruiter, mediocre gameday coach, horrific clock management.

He's kinda like Bobby Cox. He gets so much talent that even his ööööty coaching can't prevent wins.
Easier to recruit the fertile grounds of Louisiana, South Alabama, and East Texas than it is to pull decent recruits from the meth addled Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina corridor.

Mediocre gameday coach. Perhaps the worst clock management in Div 1 football. Possibly the best recruiter though.
Which tells you the relative importance of those things, given that he is "one of the greatest coaches of the millenium," eh?

Seriously, where the hell do you come up with this stuff?

The problem with Miles is that he strangles offensive coordinators. When you’ve got the one DC that always beat Les’ offenses vs Les in the same division why expect a different outcome than what we’ve already seen? Not a winner in-division and certainly not going to take down Saban
Miles brings with him a unique ability to deal with dysfunctional fan bases.

This has always been my viewpoint as well, but it's hard to discount the success he had. On one hand, he's done some REALLY stupid öööö at the end of games and had absolutely pathetic QB development for years and years, but on the other hand he won the national championship and had some really good seasons.

And he got Alabama type athletes at LSU. Tennessee doesn't and won't ever get that volume of 5 star athletes.

No joke. Not hard to be a "great recruiter" at LSU

yeah really - there's plenty of meth in East Texas!

Is this going to become another great Thursday thread?
