ATL Crap

Can we please get rid of this ATL crap and use 2-deeps like the rest of the football world?

Clearly ATL doesn’t apply to vital positions like QB which means the whole concept is a gimmick. Collins finally started getting rid of some stupid gimmicky/fake things like the money down… if we can get rid of the ATL that would at least satisfy me for the rest of the season.

Particularly because the ATL hurts probably our best offensive player on the field. Dante Smith has something special. It doesn’t matter if we have other guys that maybe better situationally in practice…Smith gets it done on game day. Why aren’t we using him to his full potential.

It’s a good thing you’re not expressing this opinion on the Hive. Those idiots actually think the players prefer the ATL over a depth chart. Now I’ll grant you it’s been a while since I suited up, but I can say that knowing who was starting mattered. A lot.

I would argue that he's a car salesman dressed in gym attire. He doesn't even dress the part
Didja see the suit he wore at ACC kickoff and for the walk into the MBS for the Clemson game?
I thought "Buckhead is missing an art or antiques dealer. And here he is!"

Hell, I'm ready for Coach Deion. Let's do this.

That GSP trooper is eyeing Collins’ front right pant pocket for a possible 8ball.

GSP' been visiting Wahoo a lot. Look How the team is hanging back.

Eccentric works early but fades fast if you’re not winning. Let’s just hope Collins doesn’t turn out to be Jerry Glanville redux.

This actually makes me feel sorry for him a bit
That’s a ridiculous looking suit
Looks like it was made from those canvas plaid bags used for carrying stuff in third world
Where was his wife that morning?

@Mcho40 is starting a thread about how cool the ATL concept is and why he loves taking money shots on money downs.

Absolutely not. Even if we were winning I would still be bothered by the level of gimmicks that Collins is in favor of. When Collins was first thought on,

I will admit I was excited by his recruiting potential and the apparent enthusiasm. It was refreshing to see someone who cared a bit about brand and media as opposed to CPJs grumpy “it’s never as good or as bad” spiel. However, even then - I was never a fan of the gimmicks. You might argue the gimmicks are what get the recruits… but clearly it doesn’t keep the recruits.

I know that not everyone is a fan of CPJ… but at least I looked forward to each game. Even when we did terribly, I always believed we could turn it around and win the next game. With CGC I don’t have the same confidence or expectation. I half expected to lose last week. To me that’s a problem.

Is the ATL the biggest issue? Is it the root cause? No, but is it something that has an impact and builds a negative culture? Absolutely.

People would have absolutely loved Money Down if we had it back during Tenuta's peak, when we were pumped every time the defense took the field and we regularly saw huge plays from the likes of Michael Johnson, Philip Wheeler, and Derrick Morgan.

The problem with it now is that a) our defense has kind of sucked and rarely cashes in on Money Down and b) because they insist on showing it every down, and since we tend not to get off the field on third down, we see and hear it way too much.

The ATL thing is stupid no matter how you slice it though.

They know who's starting. It's just their head coach thinks they're stupid and don't know it or he doesn't have the confidence in his own ability to instill the discipline and maturity in them to continue to work as if they were starting.

It was never all that complicated. The starter was always known, and if anything, there might be a battle for backup. After that, yeah, it was exciting to have one of the assistants tell you, "Hey, be alert tomorrow. You're probably gonna play some."
