Bama/GT Series Canceled?

Me and you finally agree on something. To me, it looks like we took a hard look at our Home/Away schedule and asked out. Is that a fact? I have no idea. However, I seriously doubt that Alabama would be so frightened of us that they would dodge us while playing VT last year and Penn State this year.
 
Why would we ask out? We have nothing to lose but a game we won't be favored in anyway, and a Bobby Dodd record sellout.

Dan Rad isn't operating out of a need to get an extra win. He needs one thing right now, with next year's Hewitt Buyout staring him in the face: CASH. You don't get that by stalling your biggest payout, unless you're getting a bigger one by stalling.

The only other motivation I could think of is that he got a handshake deal for Bama's vote for Tech during SEC expansion.

TUSCALOOSA. University of Alabama Director of Athletics Mal Moore confirmed Saturday that UA has agreed to Georgia Tech’s request to postpone a home-and-home football series, and said that Alabama is “working busily” on options for the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons.

“Their athletic director (Dan Radakovich) contacted me and said they wanted to postpone the series and we were willing to work with them,” Moore said. “We do want to resume the series at some point in the future, but we did not work out any dates at this time.”

That is pretty damning evidence and extremely disappointing.
 
Late in the year last year, when we were 7th ranked, all the undefeated teams were ahead of us, including Cincy, TCU, and Boise. It's also rare that that many teams went undefeated through the regular season. The only times a BCS conference team that was undefeated have been held out of the title game has been Auburn and Cincy. Both cases there were 3 undefeated BCS teams. That's 2 years out of, what, 12 or so. Chances are high that no more than 2 BCS teams will go undefeated. With a win over the Hydrant Humpers, we would be in good shape. I still want Bama, though.
 
Arguing what is best for national title hopes is pointless. There are reasonable scenarios that would argue the scheduling debate both ways. If we play a soft schedule and at the end of the year there are more than two schools with a better or same record, a soft schedule could keep us out of the title game. However, any year that we would have made the title game except for one loss to a strong out of conference opponent argues for weaker scheduling.

Who you play out of conference should consider, in this order:
1. What is best for the team to be successful and enjoy their schedule?
2. What best meets the financial needs of the program?
3a. What do the fans prefer?
3b. What does the head coach prefer?

Clearly, in the competitive SEC with their huge stadiums, playing an easy non-conference schedule allowing for 7 or sometimes 8 homegames seems to fit for UGA, Fla, Ala., LSU, Tn, and Auburn, in particular.

For us, UGA plus one reasonably good opponent and two easy games seems to fit well for now. I don't think our team is strong enough to warrant playing three tough opponents home and home just because the fans enjoy big games.
 
There are some rumours out there that the ACC is going to expand to 16 Teams. Maybe if this possible cancellation of the Alabama games could mean that there is maybe some truth to it due to possible schedule conflicts with the extra ACC games. I don't think the rumours are true about expanding to 16 teams but you never know now considering the almighty $$$ rules everything now.
 
OK, I figured it out. DRad doesn't want the national championship to be a rematch of a regular season game. :p

So we cancel the best future OOC game on our schedule and none of the others?
 
Thank God DRad wasn't around to cancel the Notre Dame series. At least I got to see that.
 
In no way do I see the SEC to come calling on Georgia Tech. fsu, meami, and clumsum yes. If they did come calling we would be way down on the list.
