Ive seen those before, love that website! Too bad they dont have more pics of north Atlanta, seems like its mostly just popular establishments. Good post tho!
great photos. Somebody needs to check the dates. I sold cokes in 1965 and 1966 and I am almost certain the west stands upper deck was in place then. Might be my bad memory.
It was horrible in the 70s. First time I went to the football locker rooms I was shocked...my high school had better facilities.I am kinda surprised that the field was in that bad a condition.
58,121 . After they destroyed the south stands, it was down to like 44,000, then they brought up the south stands and it got to 47,000, then the north stands were built and it got to 55,000.What was the capacity back then?
The old Dawg Lewis Grizzard had two great lines - calling it "the incredible shrinking stadium" and using a headline, "Honey, I shrunk the stadium." RIP, you old Dawg.
What's the opposite of "RIP?" I had no use for that guy.
I am kinda surprised that the field was in that bad a condition.
They never really got filled, horrible view of the field, and they were literally falling apart to the point where it was dangerous to be on them. Not a GT history buff. What was the reason for taking down the South stands? I never realized that they once circled all the way around on the South side.
