BDS Picture

Ive seen those before, love that website! Too bad they dont have more pics of north Atlanta, seems like its mostly just popular establishments. Good post tho!

Can we vote on which version of BDS we'd rather have now?

And how about the "chain link fence" separataing the Tech fans from the visiting fans in the East stands? That somehow feels like another freakin' life!!! Back then, you could cut the stands like a cake...right to the fifty yard line!

Not a GT history buff. What was the reason for taking down the South stands? I never realized that they once circled all the way around on the South side.

The 58,000 + number was not until upper deck was added. I remember before the upper west coaches from Atlanta area schools got free tickets to sit on bleachers atop the press box. I sat there with my Dad - great view and lots of fun.

The South stands were torn down to build the Wardlaw - we had a greater need for facilities the football team could use than for the extra seats at the time - they may have argued some structural unsoundness, but that was not the driving reason.

The old Dawg Lewis Grizzard had two great lines - calling it "the incredible shrinking stadium" and using a headline, "Honey, I shrunk the stadium." RIP, you old Dawg.

What's the opposite of "RIP?" I had no use for that guy.

I am kinda surprised that the field was in that bad a condition.

Probably taken late in the season or in winter. Reminds me that most football fields, even high schools have much better fields now then back in the day. When I played HS football, by October our grass between the hashes was pretty much disappearing. Nice hard clay in most places. No sprinkler systems and we had to practice on the same field we played on.

They never really got filled, horrible view of the field, and they were literally falling apart to the point where it was dangerous to be on them.
