can GT be successful w/o a running QB? Taylor is young and may get better but can we afford to wait?

I think we should start putting Nesbitt in for a few series. The reality is Nesbitt will probably beat Bennett out next year anyway.

I think the dream that Bennett would have won more games than Reggie last year is being dismantled one game at a time.

17 out of 40 is ok for a running QB but NOT a passing QB. When Reggie went below .500 he gave you 40+ yds rushing and NUMEROUS first downs.

But the MOST IMPORTANT stat of the season is 3rd down efficiency. If we can get 30+% we will lose MANY more games.

Not saying there isn't hope. There still very well may be hope. Bennett sounded good on the radio today, listening to the UVA announcers on XM. Dunno how he actually looked, per se. His numbers suck, though, and would have been wretched if we didn't complete the hail mary TD.

I can't believe this is actually a question. Last year Reggie had Calvin; you give Taylor Calvin this year and he is a much different QB. Reggie played badly...if he didn't have Calvin to throw to it would have been even worse. Taylor still has thrown only one TD in four games...Reggie broke our back with interceptions every game. Taylor at least doesn't lose the game for us.

Calvin would have caught the ball on 3rd and 18 with the game on the line.

Clearly.

(Actually, he would have been triple covered, and the announcers would have been yelling 'throw it to calvin anyway!')

He would've been triple covered, leaving a wide open James Johnson and making it much easier for Bennett. Not to mention our running game would have been much more successful because they couldn't stack the box. I don't think he really could've helped the defense much...but our offense would probably have been able to make up for it this game.

Reggie was better when he was healthy. After he got hurt midseason, he was never the same and Bennett was easily the better quarterback.

I'll take TB over RB any day --he's a better QB --better poised and has better touch on the ball.

lawbee, why don't you pull your head out of Gailey's ass long enough to realize what the problem has been with the program since he's been here. Do you have any comments on the mental preparation by the coaching staff, or are they not to blame for this loss?

BOR you are such an idiot. TB throws int gailey's fault. Defense misses tackles...gailey's fault. Dropped passes...gailey's fault.

Blah, blah, blah.

If TB would have performed well we would have won that game. The fact is superior QB play has cost us 2 games. UVA qb was not much better, but he was still better.

Dude its called mental preparation jackass. We didn;t f***ing have it. If its 1 or two players, I hear ya. When its the entire God Damn team, its obviously the coaches are not lending these kids proper focus. Wake up already. You love Gailey. You love the ups and downs, but you especially love the fact we lose to UGA year in and year out. Either you are a dawg fan, or a complete moron. Wake up.

And your example of TB throwing the INT is misplaced, read my other post. That was just bad luck.

Actually if Groh had kept Sewell in the game, we would have lost by 30 and TB's numbers would have been better because UVA would have played prevent the 2nd half.

Sewell went for 2 TDs and 175 yards in the 1st quarter so Groh benched him the 2nd quarter; makes sense to me.

TB is ok right now but he still is an infinitely smarter QB than the other guy you reference.

My problem with TB is that he pulled an RB. On 4th down, you don't take a sack, ever. Throw the ball up high to Thomas and give someone a chance to make a play. It sounded on the radio like he had time to step up in the pocket, yet didn't hurry up. I'm tired of watching him pat the ball three times while he's making up his mind. He's supposed to be a qb, not a woman picking out shoes.

Reggie with Calvin was better than Bennet without Calvin so far. At least the 'normal' Reggis was, not the guy who played uga every year.

It has been said many times that Bennet will not lose you games, and thus far this is true. The problem is he is not making enough plays to win games. Reggie and Calvin did make enough plays to win many games.

Reggie wouldn't of ducked out of bounds 1 yard short of the first down on that scramble either.

One of the biggest mistakes yesterday was...

Of course we can but he needs to be better than what Bennet has shown so far. He has not been terribly accurate and he is throwing the ball late.

missing a wide open James Johnson in the last drive of the first half when we settled on the FG. JJ made a nice effort to stretch out but on the replay he looked like he had 5 yards of separation on that play. That should have been an "easy" throw (let me be clear - easy is relative, not saying the typical Joe in the stand makes it but one a Div.1 QB should complete most of the time, especially when he - TB - had adequate protection on the play). Make 7 there instead of 3, then we can kick the FG on 4th and six and have the lead.

That is my point. He needs to be closer to Matt Ryan than TB.

That is why we should be playing a running qb at least some snaps if not all the snaps.

The worst thing about this game is we had the ball at midfield numerous times and still stalled. That means the WHOLE playbook was open and still no drives.

The 3rd down conversion rate is VERY disturbing as well.

Re: One of the biggest mistakes yesterday was...

The ball was in the PALMS of JJ's hands, ok? Did he stretch, sure, but that's a pass any D-1 receiver catches almost every time. I guess you blame Taylor's spin on the ball on the critical pass dropped by Thomas and the earlier one dropped by Smith. The problem is the passing game overall, not just the qb. As for comparing TB & RB...one was a manic-depressive turnover machine with gangster tatoos who after FOUR YEARS of starts still managed to personally lose games and the other has started 5 games and has yet to personally lose one for us.

Yes, I'd like to see more of Booker and Nesbitt, but the dumping on Taylor is off the mark and comes off as a poor defense of CCG.

Actually Reddie would have done whatever was the wrong thing to do there, probably throw an INT.

BTW, TB ran for 16 yards and easily got the first down.
