Best QB that GT ever had?

Ah öööö I’m dumb. I blame my current sickness.

ah you’re right. and I probably am on record saying similar things about Tevin at the time. I just think he’s hated on too much. I don’t think he’s as responsible for all those 1 possession losses as you do. But college QB’s are difference makers and the team was likely just as not confident as the fans were.

I don’t think he’s fully responsible; no. Again, i think he was a good player for us.

I do think you can look at plays that Nesbitt made in close games and see their was a noticeable diff in how Tevin (or Vad or Taquon) performed in big moments. Getting a yard when we desperately needed 1 yard. Scoring when we needed to score. Protecting the ball when we needed to protect the ball. Stealing the ball from a LB when the AB dropped the pitch.

Dude always seemed to make the right read. Or am I being too revisionist?
Tevin made a lot of good reads but Tevin wasn’t someone built to play FBS football. And when the execution wasn’t there he didn’t have enough strength & speed to bail him out.

Tevin certainly made good option reads, probably better than any of the starters under CPJ. But he didn’t have the power or speed of JfN to break the big runs or get those 3rd/4th and short. He didn’t have the speed of JT5 or Marshall to turn short gains into long gains. And he didn’t have the arm to stretch a defense out.

He gave 100% though. Every game. And he played his hardest even when the fans were calling for him to be benched in favor of the backup. That says a lot about his character.

Definitely. He’s a great guy and I don’t dispute that he gave his 100%. And I have more respect for him as a QB than I did for Taquon or Sims but I don’t think he came close to being in the conversation of best GT QB. Not from lack of trying though.

This question is easy if you split time:
Last decade 2010-2019: Justin Thomas
2000-2009: 1a: Josh Nesbit 1b: Reggie Ball 2: George Godsey
1901-1999: Joe Hamilton
1987-1991: years Sean Jones
1981-1986: 1a: John Dewberry 1b:Ted Roof
1971-1979: I have no ööööin idea
1960-1970: Billy Lothridge
1900-1959
I know Ted roof wasn’t a qb.
Eddie McAshan in the 70’s?

Yeah, I’d put him at fourth for CPJ QBs.

1. JT5
2. JfN
3. Vad
4. Washington
5. Marshall

Leaving off the backups who made one off starts like Oliver/Jordon/Shaw/Booker/Byerly.

VPI in 2012 Tevin put team up by 3 with 1:30 minutes left.

Miami 2012 Team scores 36 points through third quarter and defense allows Miami back in it including a final 1:30 game tying drive.

Georgia 2010 Tevin essentially tied the game and then we missed an XP and got into desperation mode after some shenanigans.

VPI 2010 LOL his first game that he comes in mid stream and nearly wins is now a black mark.

Against Air Force we win if we catch a punt

Against Utah…come on your original argument was no defensive lapses. Now it’s defensive lapses combined with not being able to score enough points. I blame our collapse on the elevation.

Point is: you aren’t being fair. Now do the games he won for us.

The defense let us down many many many more times than the offense while Tevin was in command. But no he couldn’t score at will. That’s true.
Not sure how it isn’t fair. Almost every game winning drive in the history of football was preceded by the other team scoring to tie the game or take the lead. Maybe some Frank Beamer 0-0 games are the exception.

He won 3 close games and lost 8. It is what it is.

But in at least 2 of the examples he did exactly what you wanted. Then the defense failed. Which you said you had no memory of compared to his own failing.
