Best QB that GT ever had?

1. Shawn Jones. For those saying Ham and it isn't even close, please point to the NC trophy we won with Joe Ham under center. Loved the guy but Shawn produced on the big stage.
2. Joe Hamilton
3. George Godsey
4. John Dewberry
5. Josh Nesbitt - loved the guy but I want more wins versus UGAg. Dewberry left the mutts and beat their asses in 84 and 85.

Never saw Kim King or Billy Lothridge, they were before my time. So I won't comment on them.

His drawback was playing with the worst 2-minute defense in Tech history :chad:
I mean, I can think of like 5-6 games that ended with a Tevin turnover where we had a chance to win in the last 2 minutes. Outside of Utah, I don’t remember many where we had the lead late and the defense folded.

This question is easy if you split time:
Last decade 2010-2019: Justin Thomas
2000-2009: 1a: Josh Nesbit 1b: Reggie Ball 2: George Godsey
1901-1999: Joe Hamilton
1987-1991: years Sean Jones
1981-1986: 1a: John Dewberry 1b:Ted Roof
1971-1979: I have no ööööin idea
1960-1970: Billy Lothridge
1900-1959
I know Ted roof wasn’t a qb.

Agree with your first two, but you have to include Lothridge, the runner-up for the Heisman in 1963. King may not be in the top 5, but he was the last QB for Dodd, and until CPJ, to lead his 9-1 team to the Orange Bowl after the 1966 season. He'd be top 10 for sure. But if you chose by how well his team did, he'd be in the discussion. I'd probably go:
1. Shawn Jones (MNC)
2. Joe Hamilton (Heisman #2)
3. Billy Lothridge (Heisman #2)
4. Josh Nesbitt (ACC Champ)
5. Eddie Prokop (Heisman votes)
6... Jimmy Southard, Darrell Crawford, Pepper Rodgers, Kim King, Eddie McAshan, Mike Kelley, and George Godsey (in some order)

Seen a green Camry being hauled off lately?

Virginia Tech 2012, for one. That game still gets me

Yeah I always thought this was Tevin’s biggest flaw. He was a very good “game manager” style option QB that distributed the ball. Unfortunately he tried to take everything on his own shoulders at critical moments and didn’t have the NFL talent to back it up. With a cooler head he could have had 1-2 extra wins per year.

What??? Your memory is completely warped because this whole place hated Tevin Washington for no reason.

Huh? I like Tevin. He was a good player. Ran the offense well. We did have a lot of close losses that ended with Tevin turnovers in the 2.5 years he started for us. The guy that preceded him and followed him won a lot of close games in similar situations. I think that is all factual info.

Name the close losses that ended with Tevin turnovers. Then name the 1 possession games tevin won and the games he closed out with scoring drives. Yes it’s true we lost the 2012 ACC Championship Game we were in by default to the eventual national champions on a Tevin turnover. That is a fact.

- Georgia 2010 ended with INT
- VT 2010 ended with INT deep in VT territory
- Air Force bowl game ended with 7 straight non scoring drives; including Tevin fumbled QB sneak at the goaline and INT at the 2 to end the game
- Utah bowl game ended with 5 straight non scoring drives (other that OT FG)
- VT 2012 ended with INT inside the 10
- Miami 2012 ended with Tevin fumble on qb sneak in OT
- FSU ended with INT down 6 under 2 minutes

We beat Maryland Duke and UNC in 1 possession games in 2011.

We were 3-8 total in 1 possession games TW played in

VPI in 2012 Tevin put team up by 3 with 1:30 minutes left.

Miami 2012 Team scores 36 points through third quarter and defense allows Miami back in it including a final 1:30 game tying drive.

Georgia 2010 Tevin essentially tied the game and then we missed an XP and got into desperation mode after some shenanigans.

VPI 2010 LOL his first game that he comes in mid stream and nearly wins is now a black mark.

Against Air Force we win if we catch a punt

Against Utah…come on your original argument was no defensive lapses. Now it’s defensive lapses combined with not being able to score enough points. I blame our collapse on the elevation.

Point is: you aren’t being fair. Now do the games he won for us.

The defense let us down many many many more times than the offense while Tevin was in command. But no he couldn’t score at will. That’s true.

Really this thread shouldn’t make it past the first page. For some of you youngsters who’ve never seen JoeHam play, you should watch some tape from his junior and senior seasons.

The guy was in another league compared to other GT QB’s.

I honestly used to think that one reason our D was so bad during those days was because our offense was scoring too quickly to let them rest.
Ya. This is really only down to 2 choices - Joe and Shawn.

3-5. 3 of which were OT…almost all of which included a defensive collapse.

3-8 is accurate. Like i said, He was a good player. But we were better in close games with other QBs that made clutch plays in crunch time.
JN was 9-4 in 1 score games; JT was 8-9

If you’re saying 3 out of 8. It is accurate. If you’re saying he went 3-8 you are adding 3 losses. Considering how you list Thomas and Nesbitt I imagine you mean 3-5. He played half of 2010 and all of 2011 and 2012. Vad Lee was our QB in 2013.

Sure. If you don’t count the 3 games TW lost by 1-score in 2010 then he was 3-5.
