Best QB that GT ever had?

Dude always seemed to make the right read. Or am I being too revisionist?
Nope, never flashy but solid player. Ended up breaking Nesbitt's rushing record. If we had any kind of defense, he would have beaten the mutts in 2010. If that happened, he would easily be in the top 10.

1. Lothridge
2. Hamilton
3. Jones
4. King
5. McAshan
6.Dewberry
7. Mitchell
8. Thomas
9. Nesbitt
10. Ball
Glad to see Eddie McAshan put on the list. He apparently had most pass TDs until Shawn and Joe broke them.

Y'all forget Godsey saved the '99 game by picking up the blocked FG, so I'd say he has two wins over uga.

Of the ones I actually saw play:
Jones
Hamilton
Then a jumble of Godsey. Thomas, Nesbitt, Kelly, Dewberry.

Tell me the situation and the opponent before I pick

As for which I would chose for next year: Jones - he made everybody around him better from freshman year to senior year
Fourth quarter and I'm behind - Godsey - he was an absolute machine in the 4th qtr. Statistics had to be off the chart.
Need to run out the clock - Nesbitt without a doubt
Need to humiliate uga in athens - tie between Jones and Godsey
Want to make an opponent look foolish - Thomas with CPJ calling the plays
Hamilton was the most entertaining by far. Never knew what he would pull out of his ass.
Dewberry would kill for a first down
Kelly had the most guts given the teams he played on for four years

Never saw Lothridge play in person, but the people I know that did see him would make him #1 no doubt.
If I needed a radio and TV announcer, then it's King with Frank Broyles assisting.

Joe Hamilton would have only played 2 seasons at Georgia Tech if the NIL rules had been in place back then.

Didn’t mean to change the subject but couldn’t help but think of how pissed off the new NIL/transfer landscape makes me.

Same could be said of the Jamison Crowder’s of the world (at Duke), or Donovan McNabb at Syracuse, etc.. etc..

No way these type players stick around a non “factory”.

You think having 15 players drafted from Bama is the all-time record (not sure what it was/is)? They’ll probably end up with 30 at some point. It’s such a ööööing joke.

I am not listing a poll. Way too many options. In your opinion, who was the best QB that we ever had? I played against Shawn Jones, in high school. He picked us apart. This after we beat Charlie Ward's team. However, as good as Jones was, I always like Justin Thomas. I think no other QB ran an offense as well as he did. Joe Hamilton is a very close 2nd.

Billy Lothridge is my favorite. He was Tech's big star when I was growing up. He could run, pass and punt. He finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting. My Momma and Daddy took me to Rich's in downtown Atlanta one week night to get "a helmet just like Billy Lothridge wore." Another great Tech quarterback of those days was Stan "The Man" Gann, who I had the pleasure of getting to know when we lived on the same street in Warner Robins in the 1970s.

Get a grip.

Joe Ham
George Godsey
Joshua Nesbitt

My favorites.

Joe Ham. I remember reading a small blurb in AJC when Joe Ham committed to Tech. Like three sentences about some QB from SC that threw for like 6,000 yards in high school but was only 5' 10". Turned out to be pretty good.

George Godsey. Had the unfortunate timing of taking over after Joe Ham. Only memory of him was filling in for Joe Ham against FSU because FSU liked to injure Joe Ham. Kind of sucked but it was against FSU and I was used to Joe Ham. So I wasn't expecting much, but GD, this dude turned into one of the best to go through Tech. Dude had the Forest Gump moment before Forest Gump when he ran the ball 35 yards into the end zone versus UGA (for some reason I always remember this as if metal braces fell off his legs while running).

Joshua Nesbitt. The toughest SOB I ever seen play QB. Ripped the ball out of the FL DL's hands on a fumble recovery. He was like, dats my ball, bitch! You need a yard on fourth down? Give the ball to Joshua F'n Nesbitt.

Nesbitt gets a lot of love when JT5 was head and shoulders better In that offense. Nesbitt was tough as hell but not that great of a QB. Joe Ham was better than either one. My top 3

1. Joe Ham
2. JT5
3. S. Jones

Psychologize it however you will, beating Georgia is the most important thing to me.

Could you imagine saying a QB is the best Tech QB ever if they never beat Georgia?
Amen.
GT has not, will never in our lifetimes compete for NCAA National FB Championships annually since 1960’s.

UGA tries to every year.

It’s very satisfying to beat a should-be, bigger, stronger, wealthier, fast, and arrogant Big Brother.

Billy Lothridge
Complete football player. Should have won the Heisman but Eastern press voted for Staubach.
Joe Hamilton
Shawn Jones
Kim King
Jim Stevens for winning an improbable bowl game
Josh Nesbitt
Wade Mitchell
All of the triple option bas
Mike Kelly
Gary Lanier
Bunch of other guys that were really good but Billy the Kid will always be #1 for me.
