Best Wins in the Russell Athletic Era

The fade to Calvin. I was sitting in my downstairs man cave resigned to the loss. When it all happened, I called my dad yelling "holy öööö...unbelievable "... He had turned it off and missed it.

People were running back into the stadium after already filing out. My friends and I were in the upper deck but hung around so we caught it all.

#10 NCST 2002. The highest high for undefeated NC State football and Philip Rivers ended at the hands of Georgia Tech and AJ Suggs.

#17 Clemson 1997. The first GT game ever for a young Flunkout who had yet to flunk out and the start of something special with number 14.

#7 Virginia 1998. Down 38-17. Joe Hamilton and Dez White. 24 unanswered points in the second half. 41-38 part deux.

#12 UGA 1998. The streak breaker.

#20 UGA 1999. Jasper thanks, we'll kick it twice.

#5 Clemson 2000. Kerry Watkins for a TD with 5 seconds left.

#19 UGA 2000. George Godsey running for a touchdown in a blowout.

#11 Stanford 2001. Strong end to the most disappointing year ever. Weird storyline with O'Leary and Willingham.

#17 Auburn 2003. They were expected to bounce back big against us after losing to USC. Instead freshman Reggie Ball was carried off the field and the goalposts went to G. Wayne's house.

#18 Clemson 2004. The fade to Calvin at the end to seal it after the botched punt.

#16 Auburn 2005. Happy day on The Plains against the 2004 undefeated SEC champion.

#3 Miami 2005. Maybe the biggest upset of the whole era.

#9 VPI 2006. The game wasn't as close as the double-digit win score.

Maryland 2006. BDS was rocking. For a game against Maryland. Michael Johnson and the stand.

Notre Dame 2007. Payback was a blowout in South Bend.

#13 Clemson 2007. Ugly ugly ugly win. Clemson kept stepping on their own dick.

#16 FSU 2008. Miracle on North Avenue. For better or worse we will always remember Cooper Taylor.

#11 UGA 2008. From preseason #1 to being Dwyer and Jones's bitch. Suck it Stafford.

Clemson 2009. Was that fake kick really illegal? Are those Clemson bros in the north stands still crying?

FSU 2009. Nesbitt wants his ball back. Dadgum wishbone.

#4 VPI 2009. Biggest, most consequential win for for Tech since the 1990 MNC imo. BDS has never been more alive since.

Clemson ACCCG 2009. I was there with oranges in my socks. It happened.

Kansas 2011. Comeuppance was indeed harsh for KU. How many yards?

#6 Clemson 2011. Controlled the game. Huge upset. Not ready yet Dabo.

USC 2012. Shiiiiiiii.

VPI 2014. this game is only here for the CPJ ghost kick and the Rodzilla gif that will play in perpetuity.

#19 Clemson 2014. Cole Stoudt, you will always have a place deep, deep in my heart.

#9 UGA 2014. As dramatic as the ending was, without an unforced error this game was secure. What a kick indeed.

#7 Miss St 2014. The year of the SEC West. Insanely glorious end.

#9 FSU 2015. Still the most ridiculous win. Yes, he does indeed have blockers.

#18 VPI 2016. Backup quarterback. Very disappointing season up to that point. Sure we'll go to Blacksburg and completely own them. Makes so much sense.

UGA 2016. Start Kirby off with a loss. One more highlight for the Austin brothers.

I will just add one more to the list. 09 UVA-First win in Charlottesville since 1990

Jebus that a long list. Maybe a little too comprehensive.

I mean, who will ever forget where they were for the 2002 Seattle Bowl? To bad we couldn't keep up that momentum with a Silicon Valley Bowl win.

Best game finish I've ever been to. (I missed both FSU games in Atlanta)

I watched it all from the very top row of Death Valley. 9 yds on first down as Clemson was trying to run out the clock and sure enough, they Clemson'd.

Great list Flunkout. Nesbitt taking the ball away from the FSU defender is probably the single best effort play of the Russell era. That was insane.

You are missing Miami '08 and '14. '08 definitely deserves some cred for awesome Russell era games. Went up 41-3 on those blowhards.

A veritable clinic of option football. Randy Shannon was bumfuzzled. Cox playing like a Heisman winner.

Just for sheer enjoyment, I'll throw in a couple of rain-soaked UNC games... 2009 and 2013.

I lost a cellphone and Canon camera to the monsoon at one of those games, I think 2009
Probably 2013. 09 didn't really start raining until 4Q. Thats the one we had about 42 min TOP.

2013 was drenched from the start. My cell quit working for about 24 hrs during/after that game, as well.
