Best Wins in the Russell Athletic Era

Just for sheer enjoyment, I'll throw in a couple of rain-soaked UNC games... 2009 and 2013.

2013.... Fedora was heckled so bad from the gold seats after that dry humping tackle that he literally jumped on a table to yell at our fans. Classic.

It sucked when we signed it. What has changed to make it any better?

The financials suck. The only other Russell holdout, Western Kentucky, got a zero cash, apparel only deal with Nike. Signing with Adidas was about catching up to this century. If we get a couple of decent shirts and a non hideous uni or two, it's a bonus.

In a competitive bidding process between three primary candidates, why should the financials suck? I'm not about to compare us to WK, so that's a non-starter.

You guys all want cool new looks, but then you also want traditional color schemes. You really can't have it both ways. I love old gold and all that, but it is not a good primary color for uniforms. It is better suited as an accent color for white or navy.

I dont think Under Armour is looking to add any more schools. It wouldn't surprise me if they followed Russell out the door within a few years. So realistically, it was Nike or Adidas. Nike has like 100 schools, so we weren't likely a priority for them.

As for the unis, I basically agree and probably care less than most. Gimme a decent traditional and a wacky alternate and I will be pleased.

Nobody said we needed to look like french fries. Blue should always be our accent color. Never a primary. We pretty much outlined that with the new branding. We have one of the most unique color schemes in all of college football, but we keep pushing out stuff that looks like Notre Dame and Pitt. Our classic uniform should always be some combination of white and gold, with navy trim. Saying we couldn't do anything cutting-edge with those colors is just dumb. Not opposed to the occasional navy alternate but it should always be an alternate - same as fan gear.

The exciting thing about Adidas was the emphasis on branding, which we got in the rollout before the spring game. The jury is still out on whether Adidas is actually going to help or hurt, and if the AA was actually serious about it at all from a licensing perspective. A+ for website design but that only goes so far. Fan merch is where the rubber meets the road.

What you just said is wrong

Hey Paul get off stingtalk

We made Gold look pretty damn good from 2004 to 2007. So it can look good. You are wrong paul

You mean the pale gold we were wearing then? Sure. The new gold is a strong color. I don't think it will look that good on a jersey as the primary color, but I'll be happy if proven wrong.

Edit: These are pretty close to our gold. Maybe decent with navy letters/numbers?

@coit here is another close example - the 2016 throwback gold jerseys worn by LSU. These are SHARP with white hats and pants.

That UNC game when I got some in the family restroom, east stands.

So we are already missing Russell? Do I need to drunkenly call them tonight at about 3 am and ask if they can just give us a uniform just one more time? Come on baby!
