1) Did we actually receive an invitation?
2) If so, who made the decision to reject the invitation?
3) Why would we reject the invitation? I would think the Hill would have been in favor of the move given the relative academic reputations of the two conferences.

Not officially but yes they were trying to get us hard years back during the first conf alignment. Drad was our AD at the time

Is there another Big 10 school close to us?
I do not see that as the most important factor now. We need money more than we need proximity. I just want to win.

We have a dispersed alumni base with concentrations in several locations near Big 10 schools. It is relatively easy to fly to any location from Atlanta.

In terms of rivalries, Duke and Clemson were the only ACC schools we played regularly before we joined the ACC.

The only thing I ever heard about it was in a response email from bud Peterson. I sent him an email saying we should do it. He said he did not thibk our fans would appreciate or travel to Bloomington in a regular basis. Or wtte

I would have loved to travel to Bloomington. It's only 45min for me.

Who cares?

An extra $22million in Media Money from the Conference more than makes up for proximity issues.

There are a lot of B1G Ten Alums in the Atl Area and the Deep South, I bet we have better home attendance as a B1G Member
Which is the nearest Big 10 school?

Yeah, the money would be great.

This is correct. Nobody gives a flying öööö about the basketball conference that is the ACC. The ACC doesn't even care about the ACC.

Indiana, is just past Louisville. Ohio State is a little further. Almost all are easier to reach by air than UVA or VT.
The money would be good, but we have rivals that are fairly easy drives from home. And the weather doesn't suck either. Tough decision.

No one under 40 has any history of playing teams other than the ACC and uga. So the ACC is pretty "regular" by now. That said yes the B1G money would have helped and might generate more local in matchups.

We would also get a lot more national exposure.

Ehh. The novelty of playing against different opponents than we're used to would wear away pretty quickly. I'm sure it was a good financial move for the programs that joined back then, but none of them are exactly tearing it up on the field. They're just bad teams in a different conference with little to no natural rivals.
