Big Boi news makes EDSBS...

Its kind of ironic that when we decide to have rap music at halftime, a genre of music fairly or unfairly associated with thuggary, we have the riegning kings of onfield thuggary, namely VT, as opponents.

Too perfect!!!

Did Brain Dead sign these guys up before he left?

... he probably did. This is not a black issue. There are many many black artist who are great entertainers that would "sell" us to Atlanta vs this rap artist. Here are the lyrics from one of his biggest hits:

So luscious she's the real deal, but even he gets ancy
Some honeys try to 'Kill Bill' beneath the underpants see
But patients is the virtual to being anxious, just might hurt you
Like Mike Vick returning to the line of scrimmage too soon
A line of nigga's tryin' get in vengeance on a full moon
Should I play it cool, or be the one to make the first move?
Anticipatin, and contemplatin, she got you sprong dude
F***, I'm fin to get her might emit her, what you gone do? (wha?)
I tell you what, we wont be fallin for that one, two
Just kinky sex up off in the boom boom if she want to
And if she don't, then I'll dial another date
That means find another face to replace, cuz I can't wait

Now, I don't know about you, but why have an artist sing at a GT halftime event whose song and lyrics are something 99.9% of the people on this board have never heard nor will they go out and buy the music afterwards? That is called pimping yourself out if indeed we're doing this to endear Atlanta to us. The team (and maybe some recruits might like it), but guess what, they'll be in the locker room. Just my opinion here....to all the big boi afficianados here ;) keep defending like you have his cd collection... its quite funny.

As for me, I'm buying one of his dogs to bring to the game... you know, just to further endear Atlanta to us... :laugher:

geetee-

Your argument is old and tired. It has already been said that he isn't going to be playing music that is laced with bad language. Quoted from an ajc article, "Hogan, for example, emphasized that Big Boi's song won't contain any dirty lyrics." http://www.ajc.com/gatech/content/sports/gatech/stories/2007/10/01/techfoot_1002.html

So, go ahead and keep posting arguments about how bad his lyrics are. They won't see the field at GT. He is very innovative and this will be a good thing for GT. The "thugs" typically listen to much harder stuff - Big Boi is much more mainstream.

But I am wasting my breath on you. :deadhorse:

Crawl back to your corner and continue to be miserable. There will be a large part of the crowd there that night who will be looking forward to the halftime show, and a majority will probably even be white

Geetee, are you a Republican?

(someone tell me what he responds with, I can't see him)

99.9% of the people on this board already attend every game they can. The point is to get some more of the 99.9% of Atlanta who do NOT currently purchase tickets to purchase tickets. Marketing 101, mate.

I think its a very shrewd move and I applaud it. And I'll confess up front that I never heard of the guy before this story came out but again, the people already in the stands aren't the target market.

Its not like we are a backwater school in Clark County where all the alums come to the games to relive their peak years. We gotta get some folks to adopt us.

I got to admit that I never heard of him before either but I like what they are trying to do here also. I think it will be a good show!

I think it will be a good show. But I did hear that there is a chance Gailey will pipe in to Big Boi's earpeice and tell him to slow the pace a little bit towards the end of the show.

:laugher:

sad. winning consistently works wonders.
Our team does win consistently - can't recall the last losing season.

I do think, however, that part of what is holding us back is a whiney contingent among the fan base. I mean, if you were not from Tech, new to Atlanta and not loyal to any local teams and perhaps open to adopting one and you met yourself and talked to yourself about Georgia Tech would YOU come to any games?

One of the best sources of new business is word-of-mouth. Given that, its no wonder we have to resort to Big Boi concerts given the word-of-mouth you probably cough up to anyone you can trap in a corner long enough to listen.

Not every fan is an ambassador to the program and from what I've seen of you on this board, I don't think you have any right to complain about the extremes we have to resort to just to counter the negative effect of perpetually pessimistic fans with a dysfunctional attraction to our program.

:wow:

I know I mentioned this before, but be glad we're not Auburn. We got a grammy award winner that high school age football players love, for a nationally televised game. They got a reality show reject for Mississippi State.

I saw that... it was very lame. funniest part was watching the faces of the crowd while he was singing....looked like they were all watching paint dry.

Careful Geetee, you might, you know, catch The Black. I hear it's contagious.
