Biggest area to fix?

The most important ingredient for any winning team is the offensive line. #2 is the QB. It use to be defense but the rules have been so slanted towards offense that the game is now to outscore your opponent not stop your opponent. Now, of course the top tier has legit defenses but I’m talking about the majority of teams. RB’s, WR’s, and DB’s don’t really matter. Why do I say that? Because there are thousands of them and for the most part they are interchangeable. But the OLine is what allows them to put up stats. We won more games without Gibbs than with him. Why? Because our OLine played better and our QB played better. We lost Brown after he had a great year and did we feel it? Now we are losing McCollum but someone is gonna catch those balls.

I agree we have a lot of areas to improve (TE, Punter, kick coverage, etc) but if we see an improvement at the OLine and QB we will win some ball games. I’m also concerned at LB since we are losing both starters but, again, there are a lot of dudes out there who can run and hit. And LB takes a lot of game reps to get good at it. I think we’ll be fine. The key is we gotta score.

No doubt about it. Football 101 is controlling the LOS. It doesn't matter how great your skilled players are if you have crap for an OL. You won't have a productive team until this is addressed.

From my point of view, the D-line is the biggest area that we need improvement. Our D line provided very little pressure. To add, they were manhandled at the line of scrimmage on way too many plays. Next to the D line, I would like the WR corps, get some improvement. While I agree our QBs didn't do a great job. I would argue that our WRs didn't help by not getting open. Ultimately, better play calling could help. However; losing the battle of the line of scrimmage will often result in loses. I would like to see Key recruit some beef for that front D line. We need a 310 lb hog molly to clog that middle up. If we can find a DE that can do a couple of power moves, to put pressure on the QB, that would be icing on the cake. What areas do you think need the most improvement? I get the whole team needs to improve. I am looking at fixing the area that needs it the most.
And here I was thinking that it was QB mechanics.

OL. If we have a good OL, the offense will click and the playbook will open up.

If the DL is a weak spot, you can cover it up a little bit with the other 7 guys. If the OL isn't up to task - there is no fix.

It has to start with a solid OL. But, to your point, DL is a close 2nd.

And I would substitute the word "improve" for the word "fix." Just my opinion.
100% agree

GOL failed as an assistant to Bill Lewis.
GOL also failed miserably as an interim HC. But he was on a national championship staff under Ross. Oh, snap!

As said above:
1. OL
2. DL
3. TE
4. ST
5. WR/RB

I wouldn’t say that he failed miserably. Yeah, he didn’t win any games, but the team obviously played much better. He benched some, played some that hadn’t been playing and changed the offensive scheme to run first.

A great DL will make any defense great, even with average players behind them. Now *recruiting* a great DL is the hard part.
Didn’t we redshirt 2 four-star DT’s this season From the ‘22 recruiting class? Anyone heard anything about them since signing day? Horace Lockett and KJ Miles

Just went to ramblinwreck to check out roster. One kid I was excited about on the DL (but had forgotten about) recruited last year is Grey Carroll. His HS film sure made him look like he could be a big contributor on defense.

We'll need a third QB..article lists possible candidates after ruling out the top three...........
...other options
One could be Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong.
UCF's Mikey Keene has started games for the Knights and could be an option. Oklahoma State's Spencer Sanders and Wisconsin's Graham Mertz are two former power five starters. Baylor quarterback Kyron Drones was recruited by Georgia Tech in high school and could receive a second look. Texas A&M quarterback Haynes King did start for the Aggies and would bring experience and could be better with a change of scenery.

He's working under the assumption that Key would want to sit Pyron for a year. I don't see that. Bringing in a HS recruit makes more sense.

I don't think you take a transfer unless it's Trevor Lawrence. Certainly, you recruit one. Two QB on roster are not enough, as we found out this past season.
