You know, I really don't keep up as well as I should but I seem to recall signing a couple of supposedly good FG kickers the last few years.

I guess it is what it is but what happened to all those guys? At the end of the day, I'm glad we have addressed the need but I just had a mental recollection that we had recruited well in this department.
I remember mostly walkons. Scholarships to HS kickers are hit or miss - it's a big difference between HS and FBS.

High school goal posts are 23'4" wide and 20' tall from ground while NCAA goal posts are 18'6" wide and 30' tall poles from ground. High school hash marks are 53'4" from the sidelines while NCAA hash marks are 60' from sidelines

Post Butker, the only one I recall starting on scholly was King. CGC brought in a few pwo's, the most promising of which was Verdisco, who had surgery and missed last season.

We are fortunate that Wells had that one good year. Probably don't make a bowl in 18 without him.

If anyone has concerns about him going 5 of 9 last year, he was banged up. Was on the Groza watch list after going 23 of 27 as a junior. So, he should be much better than serviceable.

No one is worried about that. 5 of 9 even if he was healthy is a huge improvement.
2020 – SENIOR
Tennessee's starting kicker who played in eight games despite dealing with injuries ... Opted out of the final two games in order to focus on his health ... Made a 47-yard FG and totaled five points at #23 Auburn (11/21) to move into 11th on UT’s career scoring list ... Was 2-for-2 on field goals at Arkansas (11/7), converting from 50 and 48 yards ... Made his only field goal attempt (33 yards) and both PATs vs. #2 Alabama (10/24) ... Went 1-2 on field goals and was a perfect 4-4 on PATs in season-opening win at South Carolina (9/26).

2019 – JUNIOR

Completed one of the greatest seasons ever by a Tennessee kicker in 2019, drilling 23-of-27 field goals, including a 51-yarder and a 53-yarder … His 85.2 percentage ranked second in the SEC and was best among kickers who attempted more than 20 … Made all 35 of his extra point attempts … Made 9-of-11 field goal attempts from 40+ ... Earned second-team All-SEC honors and was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award … Finished second in the SEC with 23 field goals made and tied for seventh in the nation ... 23 made fields goals ranked third in UT single-season annals and most since Carlos Reveiz connected on 24 in 1985 … Ranked sixth in the SEC in scoring and his 104 points tied for the sixth-most in UT history ... His 53-yard field goal against UAB (11/2) was the longest by a Vol in 24 years -- since Jeff Hall's 53-yarder in 1995 -- and tied for the eighth-longest in school history ... Capped the season by going 3-for-3 on field goals against Indiana in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl (1/2), scoring the game's first six points in Jacksonville … Made a 48-yard field goal and a 36-yarder in addition to his career-long 53-yard FG versus UAB (11/2) ... Earned Lou Groza Award “Star of the Week” honors against UAB … Drilled a 46-yard field goal vs. South Carolina ... Made a pair of field goals against Mississippi State and Alabama ... Opened the season by making his first nine field goal attempts and didn't miss until the fifth game (Georgia) ... Tied his career-high, drilling 4-of-4 field goals against BYU (9/7), including a 51-yarder … Hit a field goal of 48 yards against Georgia State while going 3-for-3 on field goal attempts (8/31).

No one is complaining. We’re all very excited.

Huge. A single player that will take us up 1-3 ppg for the season. Doubt anyone else has that much value beyond Gibbs/Sims

For sure. Ill get hard for 5/9 and only missing one XP

Anyone know his kickoff stats?
Looks like he hasn't recorded any since his freshman year when he had 4 TB on 10 attempts. I guess UT had a kickoff specialist.
