Can someone post the details of the buyout and how it decreases by year?

If we fire him now, he will make his full $23.1M contract (he is owed 100% of the full contract if fired within the first 4 years).

After 4 years, if he is fired, he is only owed $2.4M for each season left on his contract. Here are the scenarios:

Year
Fire him now
Fire after year 4
1
$3.0M
$3.0M
2
$3.1M
$3.1M
3
$3.2M
$3.2M
4
$3.3M
$3.3M
5
$3.4M
$2.4M
6
$3.5M
$2.4M
7
$3.6M
$2.4M
Total
$23.1M
$19.8M

So right off the bat it's $3.3M difference, but if you fire him now, you still owe him for year 4 and will also have to pay another coach for year 4. So I would think we would be searching in that $3M range for a HC, so you would be looking at an extra $3M for this season so that would basically be saving $6.3M by waiting until after next season to fire him.

While we're looking at the agreement...

Collins would earn an additional $1.275 million if he were to hit all of his incentives in one season. The bonuses include $150,000 for winning eight or more regular-season games, $150,000 for winning the ACC championship, $50,000 for being named national coach of the year and $700,000 for winning the national championship.

He was a gamble. A 1 year HC who had won 7 games as a HC FBS level. But we’re Georgia Tech. We’re not an NFL franchise disguised as a college.

If you’re TS and Georgia Tech, he fits 90% of the build: he’s a heck of a recruiter from the Atlanta area, knows all the high school coaches, and he has coached in the SEC, succeeded and been promoted everywhere he’s been. If he makes even average assistant coaching hires he’s going to go .500 by year 3.

it still makes no sense to me that we were only able to win nine games. We should have won at least twice that many.

But you still can’t name me one person you would’ve hired retrospectively that would’ve done better for sure.

He was a good gamble with bad luck and an even worse outcome at the end of year 3. A 1 year HC who had won 7 games as a HC FBS level.

I still find it hard to believe our AD had to give him a 7 year contract. I am not aware of any other P5 programs that were pursuing him.
Being the best recruiter does not win many games if you are a lousy head coach and an incompetent game manager.

How do you not just say Elevendy Gazillion if he wins the championship? If I were a super rich donor I would put it all on black and just tell my kids to learn how to make money.

Better than 3 wins for 3 seasons? Without a doubt, Monken would have.

Monken‘s team did look really good against 3-8 Navy last Saturday. LOL.
It wasn’t an argument that we should have hired Monken. It was just a simple statement of fact that Monken would have done better than 3 wins. There are plenty of other coaches that could too. I just named Monken cause Clown Boy came into Tech basically holding himself out as the savior from the 3/0

Yup, just another post with nothing to add. I also think that it is funny that you are conflating your completely hypothetical statement with a "simple statement of fact."

I hope you are not a lawyer, because most lawyers know the difference between a statement of fact and an opinion. If you are, you just lowered my opinion of lawyers, which I did not think was possible.
