Calvin contemplating retirement

It has to suck waking up in pain every day. I don't envy the NFL life, but I don't pity it either.

Yeah, it does. But would do it again in a heart beat!

He's not going to retire, 3-5 more years will lock him in the HoF. He won't be a first timer but will get in soon after.

Detroit does this to elite players. Look at Barry Sanders. Easily the best RB in NFL history and should be holding the all time rushing record if it wasn't for Detroit sapping his energy. The entire organization is a vampire.

DET def. sucks.

Arthur needs to pony up the bucks. You can afford a ridiculous stadium you don't really need you can afford Megatron. The whole league would be cross-eyed with Julio and Calvin out there running crossing patterns and wheel routes.

Calvin would be better off in Detroit than in Atlanta.

Doesn't matter how many elite WRs you got if you can't protect your QB long enough for them to get downfield.

And Matt Ryan is no real upgrade from that fat öööö in DET. Ryan's little noodle arm may be a downgrade.

I hope it really is a ploy to get out of Detroit. Disagree with some commenters in the sense that I think he makes the HOF even if he walks away today. Longevity isn't as much of a factor as it is in baseball, for example, because the careers are naturally shorter. I dunno if anyone has crunched the numbers, but 2010-2013 had to have been one of the best 4 year stretches for any WR ever.

Dedicating $15 million each to 2 WR on top of a $20 million QB would be salary cap suicide.

Ryan - $23 million Cap Number
Julio - $16 million Cap Number
CJ - $24 million Cap Number

Not sure what would happen to CJ's cap number if traded, but those three cap numbers alone represent 42% of a $150 million salary cap.

Look at what the good teams are paying their 2 and 3 WR. Hit in the draft. You don't pay $20 million for a #2 (CJ) or $6 million for a washed up #3 (Roddy)

Falcons have too many needs to even consider it. They need at least 2 more bodies on the OL, they need a S, TE, still need pass rushers, etc. If the Falcons go big with a trade or free agency, it absolutely has to be one of those, but most likely an impact defensive player. I could see them taking a flyer on a WR in the draft.

Hmmmmm....sounds familiar....

EXACTLY why the Falcons would do it. They are morons.

Seriously I've been saying for quite a while. Calvin needs to get traded to the Baltimore Ravens. Next year will be the Ravens Super Bowl run again. This year, with only one healthy CB and zero safeties, the Ravens Defense ended up #1 for the last half of the season. Bring back the 6 starters and important skill players on offense and look out.

Edit to add: And the 6th draft pick throughout.

I have to think that Calvin has properly secured much of the generational money that he's earned. If he can look at a future with his health intact, he should, indeed, consider retiring and getting out while the getting is good ...

If he wants to win enough, he should go to the Patriots.

The most interesting from a QB vantage point to me would be to pair him with a guy like Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Newton (please no) or Wilson who can buy insane amounts of time scrambling behind the LOS before chunking it long to him.

This thread is worthless without pics. Here, let me help...

My insides get fuzzy when I think about Calvin donning the green and gold. I remember a few years back before he got extended there was chatter about him coming to Atlanta, but the money was never there. He was on the sidelines for a Sandy Creek highschool game in the Georgia Dome and people thought that meant he was going to be a Falcon for some reason haha
