CGC is Still Our Head Coach

It's really odd to read some of these comments. I love GT, I just want our program to be ridiculed week in & week out. I want to sit by and watch our program being destroyed because ..... I'm not even sure the vomit comments of support make any sense whatsoever. I like watching our players suffer, be poorly coached, but I love GT. I'm glad recruiting is in the crapper with opposing teams openly mocking us if a recruit says GT is calling. We're a national laughingstock but staying the course makes you a lover of GT. Against that backdrop, I guess I despise our program.

Stansbury, Collins, Thacker, Key and now I've concludes whoever runs our Special Teams needs to be boxing their offices up today so when the HR girl arrives to work Monday morning the process doesn't take so damn long. I'm praying Cabrera makes his statement by noon, won't be surprised if it doesn't happen, but by the end of the week what needs to be done needs to be done.

With this AD and GT President he might get an extension! Got to love the leadership at the Institute these days!
Collins is in his 4th year & in just 3 games he's increased his all time GT win total by 10%. Time for a raise!

Does anyone know why CGC has not tweeted or posted to IG in over a year? Genuine question

Same reason why their is not students jumping on the sidelines and Money Downs anymore. The AD told him to quit that crap, because the boosters wanted to buy him out. The Prez & AD told him to Fire CDP, make changes to the staff and stop the none sense or else.
In yesterdays game it was 3rd down no more money down. The problem is that the GT Prez and AD didn't listen to the boosters, HUGE lack of leadership at this point. No one wants to make the tough call for what is best for the GT players, the GT students and the institute. They just want Collins to grow into a P5 coach which he is not currently doing.

I went to the game yesterday and enjoyed a delicious a Helluvienna lager. Chatted up the Tech and Rebel fans sitting near me. We were all in agreement: Collins has to go.
The Yellow Jacket programs has to be better than what we've seen over the past few years. Yesterday was unacceptable. Absolutely depressing.
Someone here suggested hiring Tom Herman. That would be perfect.

Why would Herman want to come here? Our death spiral started the second we took out a giant loan for more seating capacity. Until we get clear of that, we won't have enough money for a decent HC. Will have to take a chance on an up and comer.

I noticed that, but have no experience hearing him speak in a press conference. Thought maybe he was assistant to the head coach.

If CGC is fired, one of those 2 slide up. We aren’t paying the buyout and bringing in an outside interim coach in addition to the current staff. Or maybe we do, nothing makes sense anymore.

Could definitely be not fired, 2 away losses, then chances for 2 home wins gets you 7 games deep into the season and just ride it out and save the buyout that could have been paid last year.
Do one of those two automatically move up? I would think TStan (yuck) or the AA could choose any interim they want. In my book, that would be Long or perhaps Weinke.

Well, it's Atlanta, and I believe Tech can find the money to attract a talented coach.

In this thread, the Bourbon Fairy has taken over. I'll admit, she almost defeated me yesterday but I outsmarted her: I started drinking wine and gayed my way out of it. 4D Chess.

I don’t know if it’s in a contract or not, but it would be a heck of a slight to pay a first year with the program guy to act as interim head coach when you negotiated the assistant head coach position into your contract 3+ years ago and they did not. For all I know neither Long or Weinke has short term aspirations to be a head coach, but Key obviously does. There’s really one 3 ways forward:

1. Key or Turner slide into Interim HC. Would be weird to move anyone else there, IMO, but who knows.
2. Outside interim HC, but that’s more money at this problem unless that coach is a strong candidate to take over. Would be weird because it will be a clean house situation after this season,
3. Keep CGC til the buyout deadline drops and save $5M or whatever

Key seems the most likely to me, not because I think he’s some real solution to this 100 pronged problem, but because it’s the easiest and mostly loyal move. Like, Tenuta coaching the bowl in Boise style move.

The OL isn’t playing well. That’s not going to change if Key acts as head coach or not. If CGC is fired this season, why does anyone even care if we win 1 or 2 games vs 3? I don’t understand the negative response to the most logical path forward from a personnel standpoint if CGC gets the $12M buyout. Honestly, everyone should be more pissed if we pay him to leave today because we could have had this year as year 1 for the new guy at the same price tag with a whole new staff and culture. It’s going to take years to recover from this.

We are in a fully involved dumpster fire, it’s not going to be put out by anyone at the HC spot this season.

I think there was a reason why Long was given a two-year contract, and that might well be with the intention of naming him either interim HC or full-time HC as soon as Collins is gone. I think TStan knew all along that Collins would not survive, and keeping him last winter was a cost-saving measure. But with the increased furor after yesterday, TStan may be forced to cut bait NOW, instead of waiting. Regardless, though, of what he does, TStan MUST PUBLICLY ADDRESS THE ISSUE NOW !!!!
