He did. He whistled while he worked, with an English accent.

Kitty Smith, you are too good of a person to slum in this wretched hive (see what I did?) of scum and villany. Flee while you can. Go someplace more wholesome, like the Rising Sun hotel.

He just needed the sheepskin. Didn't matter what was written on it. A lot of us have done that.

Of the companies you named, we do business with Big Rock (Henry's) and Jerry's (Ellett Bros). Unfortunately, United Sporting, the owner of Jerry's and Ellett Bros went belly up about eight weeks ago. Most of our sales are in firearms, ammo, fishing and hunting supplies. We replaced Ellett with Davidson's Gallery of Guns program and we buy some stuff from Hicks Inc and Farris Bros. We're not really into technical outdoor gear so Liberty and Sportsman's Supply are out of our wheelhouse. Tell your friend if he can spend about a million bucks a year, he should look into a coop like NBS. I'm not quite there yet.

It's funny. I came to talk football but I'm being vetted in a way that would make the CIA proud. You guys must get some real beauties on this site.

    You're kidding right?

    Oh well,
    1) I graduated in 1975. My entire college career cost me around $12,000. And that included food and lodging.
    2) I spent at least as much time having a blast being a college student as I did doing actual college things.
    3) I have used the music portion of my degree professionally (Albeit part time) directing three different choral groups over the course of 12 years. So there's that.
4} Trust me. English degrees and the education that comes with them can be useful in all sorts of ways.

And finally, may I suggest that your question would have flowed better if you had phrase it this way:

Why did you not work in the field in which you spent so much money and time acquiring a degree?

    Thank you for your time.

Sadly I agree with the Radakovich part. He's a bit oily.

Hey TigerSmith. Welcome! Looking fwd to another trip to Clemson. Very excited! My favorite away game/trip. A couple things have made that happen: Just a great group of fans to be around, and we've had some great battles with HUGE Wins. To piggy back that...when we've been fortunate to win up there, the class of you fans shined. Yeah I'm a GT Fan and have to talk about the big wins up there!

This would be a mega upset to go up there and GT win. Congrats on how good your program is and last year's National Championship.

BTW, I see no reason for your Coach to leave for any job, There is obviously a great fit at Clemson.

Looking fwd to trip and hospitality of your fans as always. Not scared. We have nothing to lose. Think we'll be more competitive than most think, my opinion. Two things I believe will surprise: Passing game and Special teams. More talent at WR than people think coming out off option O. That might be biggest surprise and we have QBs that can throw. My question there is OL. Have great confidence in Coach Key, but it's a tall task in scheme change. Special teams can make or break first games. My opinion is we will be very solid, more than just a great punter and kicker!

Thanks for coming as you have to StingTalk! Go Jackets!!

Yes, you may suggest it. I will then ignore it. You’re welcome.

I for one think Rad and Dabbo are both very good. Rad knows how to run a program and IMO did a good job at Ga Tech. He hired Paul Johnson and got screwed by inheriting the Dave Braine stupid infinity Hewitt contract. His only arguable negative was seemed like conceptually he was a real estate developer in that he built facilities without knowing how he was going to pay for them. Worry about that later - or better yet let his successor worry about paying for them. That assessment is probably unfair - most of the facilities were necessary. At Clemson, he can build and nobody cares given the money the program is bringing in. That is why he left GT I believe, he got tired of battling for funds all the time.

Dabbo is a great coach - great recruiter and better game day coach than given credit. He had to grow into game day coaching but has done so well. I don't know if he goes to Bama, I tend to think he won't. Why follow Saban unless you believe it increases your chances to win, and I don't think it does.

What is elite or not elite is subjective so I'll leave that part of your comment alone. The part about Georgia Tech maintaining a lead for the last 25 years, well, that needs to be addressed:

    Since 2009 (10 Years) Clemson leads 7-4
    Since 1999 Clemson leads 11-10
    Since 1989 16-15
    Since 1979 21-17
    Since 1969 (50 years!) 24-22

I even left in the vacated win in the 2009 ACCCG since you won it on the field. That's good enough for me. We have to go back 60 years for Ga Tech to regain the advantage in the series. As of today you lead the overall series by 19 games. That isn't likely to change in my lifetime. All I'm asking is that you not dismiss our program as a flash in the pan, johnny come lately short term phenomenon. We've taken football seriously for a while now and we're enjoying the current success. You would too - and you will again if your new coach accomplishes what many believe he will.

If you know of a good coop that will let someone in at $1M I would be all ears. Sorry, my friend would be. Most have told me, damn it, my friend, to pound sand until revenue is in the $3-$4M range.

If you are selling a lot of ammo look at Sports South, Crow Shooting Supply, and Chattanooga Shooting Supplies. They have the best ammo prices around. Sports South is best for defensive ammo like HST, Critical Defense, etc. Crow is probably the best for cheap bulk. Plus they take credit cards with no additional fees. Crow also has the best prices on most Magpul items.

Check out RSR and Zanders. They actually have a decent assortment of outdoor type gear compared to the average firearm distributor. RSR is rarely the cheapest but there are several brands and items no one else seems to carry.

I've never understood how Davidson's stays in business. Their pricing is horrible compared to everyone else on everything. I think I've placed four orders with them in ~8 years, mainly for items no one else had at the time that people wanted right then.

Liberty and Sportsman's are about the only two actual outdoor distributors I've found that carry stuff I'm interested in. Their pricing isn't great and sometimes it is difficult to make a full order but they are the only options for certain items. I added Big Rock and Ellett about six months ago hoping to find outdoor gear but was disappointed in both. Most "outdoor" distributors I've found are "outdoors" in the vein of granola eating Birkenstock wearing hippies which doesn't work for what I'm looking for. The outdoor industry seems to shun the entire concept of distributors for some reason.

Which is why my friend was asking.

You just described the EORA show in Greenville, SC. Have you ever attended? The last time I went there were so few vendors that they could have almost held the show in the entrance hall. We walked the entire floor including stops at a few booths and were gone in 45 minutes. Very disappointing.

Our sports store is only 4 years old so I appreciate getting your insights on other vendors. I am going to have to take a hard look at Sports South. You're not the first person to suggest them. Big Rock carries a massive inventory but it is definitely focused on field, stream and salt water. Their wholly owned Calcutta brand is about all the only thing they carry for campers. I haven't seen anything there for more technical outdoor activities. There is one thing about Big Rock - they have several pricing levels and you have to lobby hard to make sure you're on their best tier. Don't listen to them when they tell you that "it's just pennies". It's a 10%+ difference on average. Ellett was a great gun, ammo and boating supplies vendor until they ran aground and broke apart. Sorry to see them go. I actually just started using Davidson's in the last month. I'm giving their Gallery of Guns program a try but I have the same objections to buying from them that you do. The upside is that their annual minimum requirement is very low. I can probably achieve it by purchasing most of my stocking dealer programs from them. Those programs are pretty much the same wherever you go. Also, any purchase at any time of five long guns gives you 90 days dating and can be combined with stocking dealer programs. That's basically how I plan to use them. If it's not working out in a year I'll move on.

When I said $1M to get into NBS I meant that's the minimum you need to spend with them alone. I wouldn't bother talking to them if my revenue was less that $3M annually. And it IS less than that. :)

In my other world, I've been a member of Ace Hardware for 38 years. Adjusting to the sporting goods world after living in the soft, warm Ace cocoon for so long was a huge culture shock. If I ever want to add anything new to my Ace store, I can usually click the website a few times and land on a suggested planogram for the line I want, the name of the rep, the final cost along with extended payment terms, an online dealer agreement form and a contact for getting an outside team to come in and set everything up for me. Needless to say, my entry into the sporting goods world felt like being dropped off in the Australian Outback with just a rusty canteen and a ball cap.

Anyhow, thanks for your suggestions. I'm definitely going to look into some of them.

    Oh, and Go Tigers!
