And so it starts:

Mark Richt, Georgia (3-2). Seems heretical to even mention this super-consistent winner -- but Year 9 hasn't started too splendidly, and there might be some mutual fatigue between coach and fans.

Now I doubt that he is actually on the hot seat, but the fact that sEcSPN would publish this suggests that it is not long until he is on the hot seat. I think this Tennessee game is huge for UGA, because two weeks later they have UF. If they lose to UT, and then follow that with a loss to UF, all hell will break loose.

I know a certain school in the state to our south who would probably give him a ride out of there if they can afford it.

While I wouldn't be totally surprised, there is some star aligning that would have to take place for that.

Jimbo would get an auto 5mil.

IMO Richt would have to screw up the rest of this year AND next year to get cut

And that means Bobby would have to stay 1 more year.

All in all though, I wouldn't be surprised.

F$U ?? I thought that they didn't care for him when he left......course that was a long time ago.

Wow... honestly, I don't think the man is that bad a coach. He's led Georgia to, what is it, 6 or 7 10-win seasons? Broke GT's 3-game streak and started another 7-win one? Geez, they could just wait until next year after Tebow's gone (though Cox will be gone, too) then when they beat UF for the second time in a decade they'll have him sign an extension...

I doubt he's actually on the hot seat, too, but if they lose to Tennessee (they wont...) and then to Florida (they will...) you're right... all hell is going to break loose...

And Richt going to FSU? Didn't CMR coach at Florida first? That would be twisting the dagger for Gator nation... but no doubt it would revive that rivalry

They could legitimately lose to Florida, Auburn, and us. Maybe Tennessee. If that happened, the uproar over in the cesspool might be worse than what is happening in Tally right now.

While everything you said is prolly true, the reason he is on the hot seat is b/c the fans expect an MNC. He's had a couple of real chances at it(last year & '05) but a lot of the fans are starting to think that he won't ever get it done.

With the amount of talent he gets to come through there he should have one by now(at least in the fan opinion)

Richt came from FSU..not UF. That's why they might want him back.

no doubt... all the trees are leaning towards Knoxville, and if the Dawgs lose for the 2nd straight week to the Vols, better believe there will be some rioting in Athens...

I'd give this article more weight and thought if it was written by someone other than Pat Forde, who is probably ESPN's worst college football writer. And that's saying alot.

Richt will get another season. He'll have to (sadly) fire Willy Martinez, but he'll get one more season. If UF lays the stick to them, and there's no reason to think that they won't, and we beat them again this season, then the heat will be on.

Right. the point is not that he is actually on the hot seat. the point is that people have started to discuss him being on the hot seat. One or two more unexpected losses and it rolls downhill from there. And for UGA, losing to UF is expected, but I think if they lost to us for a 2nd year, it would be "unexpected."

Of course, I think Richt is a good coach and it would be a mistake for UGA to let him go without having an ace in the hole, but who knows what they are thinking. Maybe time will prove me wrong, but their basketball coaching search shows what happens when you get too trigger happy without thinking everything through.

Do you believe that anyone in Athens is actually capable of thought?

Not sure how good talking is anymore these days... I think Al Groh has been 'talked about' being on the hot seat for about 10 years now....

Of course I will have to say I didn't think anyone could beat the 'how soon till hot seat discussion' time set by Randy Shannon, where in mid year two they were saying he was on the hot seat.

Then there was Dabo.

Maybe they heard Chan Gailey was available.:laugher:

Breaking news: If you're head coach of a big time college football program and lose a bunch of games, your job is in danger, no matter who you are.

Think ESPN.com would pay me if I sent that in?

I've said along if he loses 3 in a row to us, his ass will get canned. As much as they desperately want UF to be their rival, they can put up with losing to them (this year will be 17 out of 20). Let them start losing to us on a regular basis and it becomes a whole new ballgame. The losses to us and Auburn were what got Donnan fired (along with getting pounded by UF and UT every year).

As long as you can work SEC speed into it, sure. Throw a reference to waking up the echoes at ND as well, and you can be a featured writer.

You forgot to mention that you should add Miami has their 'swagger' back after every victory.

I just read on the ticker underneath Tuesday College Football Overdrive (aka we are gonna talk about ok and texas for 40 mins, then cut to baseball highlights?) that FSU is looking into a deal that will give Jimbo a five year deal that includes authority over the staff regardless of Bowden's decision to go or stay, so is the school giving the student the chance to fire the teacher? thats really cowardly of the school if thats the angle they are working

The mutts are definatley losing to florida and probably losing to GT. The verdict on auburn's legitimacy will be out until the game vs arky this weekend, they could pose a threat to the dawgnation... Five losses on the gaggers this year and the dawg pile on cmr will definately commence, but he will get one more year b/c the man has done great things for the program. Its just too bad that he will be using a new DC and a new QB after losing 7-8 starters to "graduation" and who knows how many more to academic elligibility/state prison.... richt is in a very precarious position

I don't know. When you've got a 400 lb lard ass stomping around the sidelines, those echos are gonna be pretty darn loud.
