CMR on the hot seat

While everything you said is prolly true, the reason he is on the hot seat is b/c the fans expect an MNC. He's had a couple of real chances at it(last year & '05) but a lot of the fans are starting to think that he won't ever get it done.

With the amount of talent he gets to come through there he should have one by now(at least in the fan opinion)

Richt came from FSU..not UF. That's why they might want him back.

He's also been very loyal to Coach Martinez who isn't exactly a fan favorite most days. If he had a defensive coordinator that people felt could get the job done consistently then nobody would even be mentioning Richt with the words "Hot Seat" in the slightest. At least that's my opinion.

The difference between the two is not huge. Richt is , on average, 2 total wins and 1 SEC wins per year better.

.

Two extra wins per season is not huge? 10 wins versus 8 wins on average is a world of difference in standings and perception.

You may have a point that the relative success has more to do with change in competition but you could just as easily argue the converse. For example, maybe O'Leary's success was due to Donnan. Would he have fared as well against Richt?

he had Van Gorder from 2001 to 2004 who is an excellent DC. didnt win it then either

LOL. Did you read my post? Given that he's playing an extra game....

All things being equal, 2 games is almost 20% of your season and it's a big deal. But all things aren't equal.

Would he have fared as well against Richt? I think close to it. CCG lost in 2004 by 5 points, in 2005 by 7 points and in 2006 by 3 points... all on stupid play-calling. I think GOL would have won those three games. Possibly would have won 2007, too, freaky as that game was. I'd say for certain GOL wins 2 of those 4 games.

I didn't say he'd be winning it if he had a DC people felt could get the job done. I said specifically that he wouldn't be on anyone's hot seat. Very different things.

OK, then I guess winning percentage is a better measure than total wins, given an extra game to win or not.

Winning percentage is probably close enough that it is tough to get a reason for why most feel Richt has done better than Donnan. SEC championships and wins over your rival are not hard to understand though. Richt has a clear advantage there.

He probably could have even lost a higher percentage overall than Donnan and be perceived as better with more championships and a better record against us.

Yep. Winning percentage is a better indicator. You have to factor in those other items I mentioned (Spurrier gone, Fulmer (UT), Zook (UF), Tubby (AU) and Gailey (GT) all imploding. The circumstances are NOT all equal in this case.

Winning Percentage:
Donnan
5-6 (.455)
10-2 (.833)
9-3 (.750)
8-4 (.667)
8-4 (.667)
40-19 (.678)

Richt
8-4 (.667)
13-1 (.929)
11-3 (.786)
10-2 (.833)
10-3 (.769)
9-4 (.692)
11-2 (.846)
10-3 (.769)
83-22 (.790)

On a 13-game season, Donnan's .678 winning percentage would roughly result in an 9-4 record, and Richt's would result in a 10-3 season. Not a whole lot of difference factoring in the differing situations at UF, UT, AU and GT.

CMR also has the advantage of playing an FCS poor-sisters-of-the-blind school yearly, something Donnan could only do once every four years if he wanted the game to count towards bowl-eligibility.

I think Richt's a good coach, but his team doesn't seem to play for every game. Like Gailey, they tend to play to his level. Richt seems like he could use better coordinators to keep his team in line, while he focuses on the head coach stuff like recruiting which he is much better at.

Just wanted to update the stat from earlier in the week (courtesy of the AJC): The Bulldogs have failed to score an offensive touchdown in 10 of the past 11 quarters.

Quote from Richt at post game:

http://dawg-extra.blogspot.com/

That led a reporter to ask Richt after the game if he was happy with the play calling by offensive coordinator Mike Bobo. Richt was overtly curt in his reply.

“I like Mike Bobo’s play calling,” he said. “That’s why he’s my coordinator and calling plays. I guess you don’t.”

BTW, although David Hale is a homer for UGag, he is pretty funny with his snide remarks. His live blog during the UT game is pretty funny reading.
