College Football Countdown

It's understandable that you would think what I wrote is a typo because it isn't something that happens much, but Idaho is already FBS, and is moving down next year. That's why it is puzzling that they are so high on the list compared to some teams who will remain in FBS for at least a few more decades.

It's all about $$$ and fans, not quality of team. If GT pulled <15,000 average attendance, we'd be demoted, as well.

Idaho isn't being demoted, though, it's voluntarily leaving. They haven't tripped the NCAA minimums, AFAIK, the Sun Belt just decided to kick them out and rather than continue as an independent they said they'd make the move because they didn't want to invest the money necessary to be competitive in FBS. Besides that, Idaho has 1 winning season since Y2K. Both UVA and Maryland are in the top half of FBS for four year average recruiting, where Idaho is outside the top 100. Even if we're ranking purely on quality of team and not just which level they are moving to, Idaho doesn't deserve to be ahead of the vast majority of the teams already named.

Nope, this particular blemish in the rankings is malarkey all around.

IThey haven't tripped the NCAA minimums, AFAIK...

Idaho was in jeopardy of a forced demotion, so they made the move voluntarily before they could. It's like someone who quits right before he expects to get fired.

I don't think this is true, since Idaho has been relying on 'paid attendance' numbers rather than the actual attendance numbers for NCAA stuff since forever. They would already have gotten kicked out in 2008, otherwise, after missing 15,000 for two years in a row in actual attendance if that were the case. Same with Utah State. I don't think the NCAA has ever enforced that rule to demote someone.

Georgia State should be demoted yesterday.

So what's the over/under on how many of our opponents will be ranked below us?

He is (was) their only QB, right?

Yep, he was the only one with game experience anyway. Aaron Winchester (RS Freshman) looked really good in the spring game. But performance in spring isn't always a good indicator for fall.

They also had a QB transfer from Utah. Just have to wait and see if either of them can step up

Laugh all you want, Arbuckle was a great QB last year for State and the Sun Belt Player of the Year if I'm not mistaken.

I'm not laughing at the player, I'm laughing at the description. A school that has been playing football for only a few years has a record setting quarterback by default. The descriptor is meaningless. Even if he wasn't any good, he'd have every school record.
