Cornerbacks

beej, you're not going to make your point with me.
Clearly.

Matt Ryan torched us because their oline picked up the blitz and he stayed out of 3rd and long situations by hitting short passes, screens, and dump offs also keeping our blitz in check.
No he didn't. Matt Ryan was in 3rd and long all night long vs us. BC was 5 of 15 on third down, but averaged 15 yards per completion, because they were throwing deep on every play.

Here's the play chart:

http://ramblinwreck.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/2007-2008/gt091507.html

Something like 80% of BC's plays started out (something)-and-long. Go look. They were behind the sticks all freaking night, but all of their attempts were deep.

Here's a great one:

Shake the cobwebs off your memory, dude. That's the Tenuta Defense without Kenny Scott. I just cut/pasted two of BC's three TD drives, and in each they never ran a single play from scrimage without long to gain.

"Short dumps and screens" ..? Really?

Matt Ryan was in 3rd and long usually because of holding penalties, which BC didn't care about because it was 20+ yard receptions when holding wasn't called. Anybody, Scott or Clark, would have done better without BC blatantly holding every single play, stopping the blitz and giving Ryan tons of time against single coverage.

And to be honest, I can only think of two specific plays by Scott. One was the UConn pick six, which was cool. The other was the long reception given up to Maryland which would have given them the game without a great game-saving tackle and four straight defensive stops.

It's not that he wasn't talented, he had great speed, height and body to play CB, but he just did not live up to his potential because of his trouble tackling.

I gotta back BOR on this one....who does Kenny Scott play for now? Thank you.
Thread over.
