Cornerbacks

So you think he did live up to his billing? Even by dropping out of school to prepare for the draft? The draft that he wasn't taken in? Kenny did some things well, but as an overall CB he couldn't hold Willie Clay's jock.
So, because he wasn't as good as Willie Clay that means he didn't live up to his billing? I guess none of our current CB committs won't live up to their billing either, since they're not likely to be as good as Willie Clay.

You're a smart guy, but you're WAAAAY off on this one. Kenny Scott was one of the reasons why Tenuta could get away with blitzing so often. Seriously, comparing him to Mario FN Butler is a joke.

TANOOOTA BLITZ, BLITZ MORE, no care who CB...BLITZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Kenny Scott played better than Ried has to date, but not at the level that he was projected at.

this is a stupid discussion, but BOR you are off on this one some. dont let your anger at Scott for never growing any get in the way of seeing what he did do well -- cover WRs

While he was no "Big Play" Wilie Clay, Kenny Scott was a really good CB. There is no one on our current team that I would put in the same category as him.

Kenny Scott's job was made easy because of Tenuta's defensive scheme of pressuring the QB from all over.

Yes, clearly playing corner is easier with no safety help.

!?

You're digging yourself a deeper hole, BOR.

So he wasn't Willie Clay. Big. Deal. I'll be nuts if either of the two commits we just got are Willie Clay, but I'll be awfully happy if either of them are Kenny Scott.

Uberfail on your part. Its apparent you don't know what a good cornerback is since you've only followed GT since 1999. And Marvious Hester played Cornerback better than Kenny Scott.

Kenny Scott's job was made easy because of Tenuta's defensive scheme of pressuring the QB from all over. He'd look like Mario Butler or any other cornerback if he was placed in any other defense.

No, it's apparent that Kenny Scott was the best CB Tech has been able to attract in the last decade, thereby making the OP's point that snagging two that are higher-rated than he was is a big deal.

BOR is right. Scott sucked at run support, big time.

Reginald Rutland is perhaps our best corner ever, with Clay coming in second. Probably no GT corner matches Reggie's NFL career. Hester wasn't even close to Rutland or Clay.

I didn't say he sucked, or that he wasn't a good performer for us, just that he didn't live up to the recruiting hype. He was ranked as high as the #5 CB the year he signed. But he never was All ACC, had a total of 5 ints for his career and wasn't drafted. I'd say that wasn't living up to the hype.

Scott did not live up to his billing.

I remember him chasing receivers with the ball frequently. Thats not a good thing.

Probably too tall to be a top CB.

Where is he today? Proves the point.

He fast but wasn't good in coverage. There's a reason he didn't get a shot in the league.

I hope y'all are kidding about marvious Hester even being mentioned as a top db in the past ten years. He was absolutely terrible in coverage. He was a good tackler in run support but he couldn't cover anybody. He was terrible.

I'm not an expert in these things, but without Safety help, the corner's #1 job is to keep the play in front of them. Unless they're like a Deion Sanders, that usually means they shouldn't play close coverage. It also means the corner's job pretty much boils down to one thing, tackling the receiver, something Kenny Scott has some high-profile failures at doing.

It also may be why Wommack saw a lot of interceptions. Under Tenuta, the safeties who otherwise could have intercepted were too busy blitzing. Not that one way is better than another, just a difference in philosophy.

Still waiting for someone to list a better GT corner than Kenny Scott or Marvius Hester this decade.

Scott was solid. That's true. Hester wasn't. He was undersized and constantly gave up the big play. He was a good run stopper onthe perimeter, but he was flat out awful in coverage.

If there's one position I could actually possibly coach in football, it would be cornerbacks and safeties. Kenny Scott was one of the worst tacklers we've had and while his pass coverage skills were above average, the fact that he couldn't shed a block or get in on a tackle was the reason he wasn't even considered a draft pick and why he never smelled the NFL. His pass coverage skills were also masked by the fact that QB's couldn't throw against us unless it was a quick or 3 step drop which limits the number of deep pass plays you can make and keeps you throwing over the middle. Tarrant or Butler could have been just as effective in that defense.

I stand by what I say because quite honestly, I know what the **** I'm talking about.
