- Great win vs MSU. Sent a message to a lot of people with the way we won. Coaches were happy with the victory but not satisfied. D needs to improve going forward.

- This bye week comes at a great time for us!

- Josh strained his hamstring as most know, he seems fine and from the way it looks wont take too long to get back if he stays off it and rest for a few days. He is shooting for the Duke game but GW is probably more probable.

- Willie White is now at WR, he will be getting plenty of reps in the coming weeks there and should see significant PT. Willie just wants to get on the field. He's a great kid who is a true team player.

- Jefferson will return to practice this week and might be ready for the Duke game, if not then he will definitely be back for GW. He should be ready to roll and be back on his game when Clemson comes around.

- Voss injured his shoulder but should be ok for Duke.

- We should be at full strength for the first time this season against Duke, the coaches are looking for everyone to be back and healthy by then. Earls included.

- Everyone was impressed with Jaybo, he was excited when I talked with him yesterday. Very confident but humble kid.

- Met a lot of the recruits this weekend, it was one of the biggest crowds of recruits I have ever seen since being around GT. We feel like we are sitting well with Orwin Smith and possibly the front runners, Jamal Patterson is a very real possibility his family would like him to stay closer, Jamea Thomas if we offer he should be ours to lose, Cross should be committing soon it sounds like, Jonathan Davis is very close his father seemed excited about GT. The commits that were present had a great time and seem very excited about the future of the program.

- This team is excited about making some noise this year, this coaching staff has them believing they can accomplish big things this year.

Great report!

Dem,

Thanks for the great report! Good to hear that the team is really on board with our potential to accomplish great things THIS year, not only in future seasons. Also good to hear (although we already knew this) that PJ isn't completely happy even after a win like that. There are always things we can work on, and it's good to see him verbalize those things to both the team and the fans.

It will truly be a thing of beauty to see this team at full strength in another couple weeks. If we could be at full strength against Clemson, that would really set us up well for the last half of the season.

Glad to hear White is moving to WR. If we've got any team players who need to participate, WR is a great location for them. That spot, more than any, is built for a true team player with the amount of blocking that's required. BeBe has really bought into that, and if White or Earls come in and block as well as BeBe, we should be in for a real treat.

Good to know that Josh's hamstring is only tweaked. The coaching staff should give him all the rest that he needs prior to Clemson. I realize that he'll need some snaps against GW at the least to stay in game shape and get some more reps at the offense, but we cannot risk bringing him back too soon. We need both he and Jaybo in great health to tackle the rest of our season. We've got some tough defenses coming up (Clemson, FSU, Miami, UGA) and they'll love to tee off on our QB's.

Thanks again for the report!

wow thats all good news about jefferson and everybody getting back. I am really glad to hear about willie white. I think he has tons of potential.

this is why stingtalk is the best board..thanks- Dem

This is huge. There's no denying the significant drop-off in talent from Jefferson to Chambers, although Chambers is doing his best. BJ being back for Clemson is awesome.

I had wanted to ask about Willie White a few weeks back since he wasn't on the 3 deep at defense. 4 star recruit coming in so he should have plenty of athletic ability. Losing Bebe against VT really hurt and WR is our position of least depth.

Willie and Earls out there for WR depth could potentially be HUGE for our passing game.

I think the passing game will open up just a bit...just like it did vs. Miss St.

So dems, who starts of these linebackers?

AT Barnes, Jefferson, Sedric Griffin, Kyle Jackson, and Tony Clark?

Clark played decent, but Griffin made a very serious statement to dethrone one of the starting LB's. So who?

I expect to see Griffin starting even once everyone is healthy. The guy plays so intense on every play and is just an absolute force.

i say jefferson, griffin and jackson - but they will all play

I agree. I was very, very impressed with his intensity.

I might be the only one that feels this way, but as far as Griffin goes, I feel like he focuses to much on the big hit and ends up missing his tackle. He is in good position a lot of the time, but just over pursues and misses them completely.

Good question BOR, I don't think the coaches are going to commit one way or another yet, we have developed good depth there now and it will be decided on the field and in practices these next weeks. My guess- AT, Sed, Kyle to start this week. Jefferson will have to work his way back in and prove he is healthy enough first. By Clemson I think we will be back to AT, Kyle, and Jeff. Its our best combo, Sed will come in and give us a lift and some energy. I know the coaches do love what Sed has done lately, it will be hard to knock him outta the lineup.

Duke--
Barnes, Jackson, Griffin

Gardner Webb--
Barnes, Jackson, Griffin

Clemson--
Jackson, Jefferson, Barnes

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if for Duke it stays Clark, Jackson, and Sed. Just working AT and Jeff back in slowly.

yeah, i changed my lineup around some after thinking about it.

I think it will be Clemson before the "original" LB unit is back in there starting together.

Great report, Dem.

I don't go into hype much, but I must say, this offense last Saturday was the best GT offense I've seen, since the later days of Fridge, against a quality D. That was a quality D out there Saturday, not a D1AA slouch. We put up 38 points and could have put up 58 had we wanted to.

The thing I've considered since is, we still are at only about 50% efficiency with it!

This next month is a very providential period for us. The week off allows our guys to get over the bumps and get their legs back. The next two games are games we frankly should win handily. I trust PJ will not let them falter. I will be a month between difficult games for us. During that time, I suspect we will move to around 75% efficiency in the offense.

I believe we will be flying high for the CU game against a tough CU team at home, but with a DL that is less than marquee. If our D can stop them better than we did the last trip there, we really have a great shot at coming back winners from DV.

We return home to play just a sorry, depleted UVA team for homecoming. That one should also be a win.

That would leave us 7-1 and looking at what appear to be very winnable games at UNC, and back home with FSU.

It is possible, with very little stretch at this point, that we move into the Miami game at 9-1. No one yet knows what Miami has. It still has to be rated a toss-up being at BDS on a Thursday night.

Win that one and we roll into Athens at 10-1, with a skinny 3-point loss between that and undefeated.

What I'm saying is this team, if Saturday was an accurate indicator, can win any game left on our schedule. The key, IMO, will be what happens between today and the CU game in terms of gaining efficiency with the offense.

I don't think we run into another D the calibre of the three we just played until we hit FSU, Miami and UGAG. To me, that is the determinitive factor: a D that can keep us from scoring 35-45 points with this thing. I just don't see Duke, G-W, CU, UVA or UNC doing that. I think we'll get better each week, and I think we'll win each of those games. The progress to date has been too starkly defined to think any less.

So, a break here and there, and we could be 9-2 or 10-1 heading into Thanksgiving. Beat UGAG and where might that lead us?

Can we do it? I think so, with the progress we should make over the next 3 weeks, and the way our schedule lays out this fall.

Anyone on our schedule except GW can beat us. Miss State despite the SEC hype is not good and has coaching on par with Miami but with far less talent. We barely beat a depleted BC team and lost to the worst Hokie squad in nearly 20 years.

UNC woulda beat VT bad if they hadn't lost their QB. They should have him back for our game plus perhaps an experienced second option at QB by then. Miami demolished a bad A&M team. They are getting better. Don't let the Alabama meltdown fool you, Clemson is very good. UGA is a juggernaut.

Duke and UVA do look beatable, but if we lay an egg with turnovers we will lose.

Cold water:
Our D is young and is giving up a lot of yards against horrible offenses.
We don't have the depth to absorb many injuries.
The PJ O neutralizes great DL more than the other D positions. We will see better back 7 groups than we have seen so far.

I am very excited. If we stay healthy and we get a bunch of good bounces this season could be special. However GREAT teams struggle to go 10-1. We are a LONG way from being good enough to talk like 10-1 is more than a longshot IMHO.

If we (the team, not us fans) are looking ahead to Clemson we will be lucky not to lose to Duke. They are Div 1 athletes with a good coach and they have been practicing for the triple O and have played against it. They are also smarter than many and should be able to play their assignments.
