Couple Things

I can't see any way to defend UVA. A couple of years ago, they didn't look near this bad and we still defeated them 24-7. I mean, what you guys think of our team if we beat a DI-AA team 16-0 and lost to UConn 45-10?

Stranger things have happened, and I wouldn't be so quick to predict a win if it were at UVA, but we should safely beat a team at home that's an underdog to Duke.

If everything goes right and PJ stays on, dare I say we could become the new old-school Nebraska?

Personally I have been extremely impressed by PJ's adjustments, changes in scheme, creativeness, etc. Nebraska was never that.

I'd say we are the new Florida.

You're probably right about my underestimating PJ's savvy and creativity compared to Osborne's Husker teams. Hell, let's just be the new Georgia Tech. That would be fine with me. We beat the hell out of Nebraska in the 91 Citrus Bowl anyway.

It is very easy for me to nit pick percentages, but if we play UVA many times there is no way UVA wins 1 out of every 3 against us. They would be lucky to win 1 out of 10 and it would take wierd things like losing our 1st and 2nd string QBs and centers and Dwyer in the first series.

As for Florida/Nebraska, lets not get ahead of ourselves. I could only dream of being like the old Nebraska. We do have similarities with Spurrier's UF in that PJ seems to be as close to Spurrier when he was on his game as any HC I can think of since. Maybe Mike Leach? Does Mike call the plays like PJ and Spurrier? Did Fridge back when he was winning?

I just said Florida State because of the consistent domination we are about to exert over the ACC... and all other opponents that challenge Paul Johnson and his Machine.

Hasn't UVa won only once at BDS@HGF since 1989?

UVA also won at BDS in 1993, 1994, and in 2004.

As you probably know, we haven't won @UVA since that fateful November day in 1990.

Speaking of streaks, we also haven't beaten FSU since they joined the ACC. Hopefully we can take care of that this year.

"Why do we insist on setting expectations low, and on belittling our wins? Are we insulating ourselves to the inevitable disappointment?"

Stinger, that is not it at all. The worst thing you can do in competition is to underestimate your opponents. I have lost too much money to golfers that I thought I could beat like a drum. And Tech has a proven history of this. It's a case of trying to stay focused.

I understand. I'm having to fight the feelings of history every day this fall. However, I know that PJ is a different breed, one that we haven't had here in a very long time. We'll lose games from time to time, but it won't be from lack of focus, I'd wager.

BTW, love the avatar! One day I'll play that course on something beside my computer. :p

It's worse than that. Richt was at FSU back then. He started as the QB coach and then moved to the OC spot prior to leaving for UGAg. We've never beaten that f**ker!

Hopefully we can take care of BOTH issues this year.

I'm new to StingTalk but holy shiznit, when this guy starts a thread there is always thousands of views. :wow:
